Bruce is not a spider guy, FWIW. ;) He doesn't own any hair gel.

Amazing that no one got hurt, Bruce am sorry this happened, hopefully they will be able to "buff" it out. Seriously good luck with the insurance company.

It's not really terrible damage, but the price of parts is so high the estimate can add up quickly. If it does get totaled it will probably end up on copart for sale by the ins. co and will be an easy fix for someone. I bought my spider off copart, totaled by an insurance company , someone evidently put it up over a curb , bent the lower left control arm, bent 2 wheels , cracked the corner of the front spoiler and bent the battery tray a little. cost me about $2000.00 to fix it but yet in the eyes of Essentia ins co. the car was a total loss.i would love to know more of the cars story to know why it was totaled , but i put some feelers out there to see if anyone knew the car but nothing. Guess it all depends on the insurance adjuster.

Your statement about the old dog with bad hips really explains how you feel. Sorry about the loss.

Bruce, as everyone else has stated, this is incredibly bad luck for the car but very fortunate for yourself and your wife that you guys were not in it when this happened.

Hang in there, it won't be long before you are back in business

Southern California...land of killer eucalyptus trees. Those suckers drop limbs and fall over all of the time with no warning, most unstable tree in existence, but pretty and smell great.

I spoke with the guy in charge of "streets" for the city, who was quickly on the scene. When I suggested that he cut down the offending tree (it dropped a similar limb last year), he said "You wouldn't believe how hard it is to cut down a tree in Redondo Beach" (treehuggers). I guess it's going to take a mom pushing a stroller hit by a falling branch to take down that piece of s!@#.

drill a hole in it with a cordless drill late at night and pour some trans fluid down there. I would take revenge on that tree!

In California you could murder someone and get probation......do something like what you're suggesting and it would mean be life in prison.

In all seriousness though if its that hard to get a rotten or rotting tree removed then logic would say they will be responsible. But know one is logical anymore.

The insurance company (thanks Farmer's) has offered a generous settlement which allows me to keep the car. My current plan is to replace the last foot of the rear end with 355 sheet metal for a little better aero. Maybe add flares. Damage was sheet metal only. Full repaint since I've been accumulating chips and cracks in the front end for 10 years. My worry is that the car will then be "too nice" to drive like I stole it.
Don't worry about your parts room Tim, it's empty :D

I say go 550 barchetta style with 355 spyder rear end and B piller area. Engine bonnet with glass area for engine viewing. Front lights challenge style deleting the pop-ups. I volunteer to make you the hoops. I got ideas to build hoops with mostly hidden waistline cage for chassis stiffness but keeping weight down and CG low. Change paint color to Rosso Barchetta. Get enameled "RatFink" shield made maybe from skilled glass blower.
