What a bonus to have such a complete kit in excellent condition. Thanks for sharing!

You are correct, but there is an additional step. The aluminum brace which is next to the jack is placed between the jack and the body. The bottom of the brace has rubber to protect the paint. Notice that the brace has a small indentation in the center, this is to align it with a rubber bump that is on the upper portion of the jack.

I can't tell you how well this works as I would never try it with one of my cars!

Ivan, one more question. How long is the screwdriver in your kit? I have this one but not sure if it's the correct length.

You should ask Frank that question. My car is gone.

Sorry but my tool kit is in Seattle and I'm 1200 miles away.
    It looks correct, but?

    Momentous day!!!!!

I went to check on the car and about 99.5% done....I drove it with the mechanic about 3 miles and she drove beautifully!
Everything is working beautifully, all gauges. shifting was smooth as butter, brakes great. Suspension is surprisingly supple for what I would have predicted for a car over 50 years old.

I won't be able to pick it up for about a week since they want to tweak the carbs a little more, the carbs don't like the cold much and cold starting still needs addressing. There is also a minor electrical glitch that needs to be sorted with the horn (that is why in the picture the center piece for the horn is still off).

I will put the chrome around the windshield and rear window on at a later date....I told them I cannot wait any longer to get the car (I may have to once again lean on Frank and Ivan for advice on that one final job).

Just about 5 years to get this done!
When I have the car at home I'll take more pix and post them...likely will create a new "summary" thread of photographs.

As you can see interior will need a little cleaning before final delivery...still in "shop." The sunlight was so bright outside it makes the leather look a little gray, but it is black. The carpet is beige. I am having floor mats made, not done yet.
In the trunk the red switch is a battery kill switch.
I have the hubcaps too, all just re-chromed but I haven't put them on yet.
I also have the radio, and will have that put in as well before final delivery.

I submit to you all....#412, with Touring body #6400...is just about done...

    Yeah!!!!

    :)

Congratulations! She looks fantastic! Job well done.
Like anyone I could comment on a few things but will refrain while the euphoria is clearly at hand.
Who did the leather, it looks very nice and who did the chroming?
You have a pm from me.

Congrats! Must be a great feeling to drive her. :)

Your car is a nice early example, (you knew that already!)different pedal arrangement and transmission tunnel and access cover. Do you have the original gauges?

I've got a spare Maserati shift knob for your car if you need one.

    Ciao and best!

I never changed out any gauges...should be all 100% original.

I would love to purchase original shifter knob if you are willing!

    Thanks.

Rob, Congratulations! Your car looks fantastic. You and I started our cars about the same time. We spent the afternoon working on ours. We ran out of time, so we will be finishing it on Monday. We have about an hour left before our car is 100% finished. I will update my post on Monday. Would you have ever guessed that it would take 5 years? I certainly did not expect it to take so long. I am happy for you and your family. I hope you have many happy adventures ahead of you in your beautiful car.

Trev, nice offer on the shift knob. I have never even seen one for sale. Rob, you are smart to jump on it.

The white shifter knob was also used on some Mercedes of the same vintage. I was able to buy a new one but I do not know how readily available they are. The ones on the 190SL/300SL look very similar but the mounting is different. Perhaps it would not be difficult to modify. Those you can find on ebay for around $55.

    What an amazing car!

I can see why you're impatient to enjoy it some before doing any more work. That motor is gorgeous.

Well done Rob, a beautiful car back on the road.
Nice to see this early colombo chassis car with the standing pedal frame.
The gauges on your car should have the black background (not grey) and that is the way it is from what I can see.
    Congratulations!

    Thanks Marcel!
Can you update the photo of 412 you have on your website?

Once I have the car back at my home in a week or so I will try to shoot some pictures in a little more shaded setting to bring out the lines better. These previous photos were in brilliant sunshine and things looked washed out a bit.

Once 100% finished with chrome around windshield done i think I will hire a professional automotive photographer to do a shoot.

I bought this one and the thread is identical to the ZF S4-17. You'll need a special nut to fix it, but these can be bought.

    Very nice.

I am so glad that a barn find has been brought back to its glory!

I have to ask, given the market value on these (starting to reflect their greatness), how did you do financially?

    Best,

Over the 5 years it has appreciated to far more than I have into it.

The only wise car purchase I have ever made. :)
