Apparently I'm an idiot and I sincerely apologize to anyone who incorrectly installed their guide shoes based on the video series I did a few years ago when I did my major. I was admiring jerhofer's recent excellent documentation of his engine major when I noticed in his picture of his guide shoe installation, that his were pointing in the opposite direction that mine were. His, of course, are correct. So much for my Happy New Year!
There are 2 small bits of good news: I've driven many 100's of miles in a "spirited" fashion with no problems, and in doing some research on this, found a mention from Pap that his were also installed backwards in his car before he got it, again, with no apparent ill effects.
The other small piece of good fortune is that it can be corrected in less than an hour's work thanks to the removable caps on the cap belt covers. Hopefully no one needs to do this, but just in case you do I did a quick video on the procedure:
[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a42A_lE7jWo]Ferrari 348 Cam Belt Change part IX correction of guide shoe installation - YouTube[/ame]

if that link doesn't work, go on Google and type in "sonordrum1000" and that will refer you to my video list. Look for the "Ferrari 348 Cam Belt Change Part IX Correction of Guide Shoe Installation".
Again, my apologies for any inconvenience to anyone.

Thanks for taking the time to do this initially, and to correct and update your info. It is genuinely appreciated.

I viewed your video and initially tried to install them the way you did. However, like you, I could not gain the necessary clearance. Plus it was very difficult to get the feeler gauge in the right position. So I called Tom the tech where I bought the car and he soon set me straight.

Like others here I am glad you took the time to do the video set as they were very helpful as were other posts that I checked out. And that is one of the reasons I always document my projects as I hope someone else will benefit from my experiences. I did a body off restoration of a '64 Corvette last year and documented the entire process on the Corvette Forum. Last time I checked the thread had well over 60,000 hits, many of them happening well after I completed my work.

And that is the beauty of the internet. When we were ready to put the wheels on my son asked me what the torque setting was. I did not know but had my iPad handy and, in seconds, I had the info. We both commented on how difficult it used to be to get the information that one needed. Personally, I would sure hate to have to go back to those days, other than the fact that I would be much younger!!!

See, THAT's why you're smart and I'm an idiot... since it didn't fit right, I modified it. Should have gotten a clue right there things weren't right.

Thanks for all the kind words from everyone. Hugely embarrassing!!!

P.S. if anybody finds any other errors in my videos, please let me know. Youtube provides the ability to write a correction panel into the video. I don't want to be passing on erroneous information.

You are a standup guy for correcting this and please don't feel bad about it because we are all human. I am sure I have viewed each of your videos and they are great. I learned so much from you and the others on this board because of these posts. Please keep it up.

Those videos were extremely helpful in learning the engine. Thank you for posting them. If I remember correctly the home made custom puller tools used were really resourceful and technique to secure cams for tdc.
