True story. Been in touch with the son of the owner. A very nice guy. His mom pulled the trigger and sold it before he had much influence on the sale. IMO well worth it...

I was joking about the $2MM offer. I was very interested but never got a chance to give a real offer. I was awaiting for more info and pics of the car as was promised. The car sold before the son was able to furnish the info...

only as a bystander observing... having only read the story as posted here... it is a shame that a predator ( on the elderly without full knowledge of the value of their asset ) ended up with the car... an organized informed sale would have been more appropriate... allowing time for family verify the value of their asset... many cliche' about this kind of transaction... Ferrari community is not exempt from those with tarnished halos... the true value of the car will be exposed at its' next sale

I believe the car sold for about what it was worth based on the information the seller's son provided to me. In order to have a proper GTS's with value of about $1.7-$2MM in today's crazy market one would need to hire the very best restoration shop to get it to a highest standard. This can easily run $500K+. Than there is the holding time/costs. I think the selling price of about $1MM is not a low ball number. Not a predator type of a scenario. There was a well known broker involved and made the deal go quick. That all...

Sorry for the long absense. Geno is correct that the car has been sold by my mother. Given the condition and completeness of the vehicle I think it was a good transaction (not great). For full discosure, we found what we believe to be the original instruments in a box in the attic with other parts and the odometer had 36K kms (European model). I was counseling a little more patience, but my mother felt that she had a bird in the hand and wanted to be done. I certainly understand her decision given her circumstances.

I sincerely appreciate all the advice and coaching along the way (even if the beginning comments were less than complimentary). Since I no longer have a vested interest in Ferraris I will bid you all farewell and years of happiness engaging in your passion!

The buyer was a dealer, and the car was immediately flipped to another dealer. I'm sure we will see it for sale as soon as it is cleaned up and safely operable.

I have a mid-1960's Ferrari convertible that was in Bob Smith's shop for extensive reconditioning before I bought it last year. If Dallas is the area you prefer, you can't do much better than him.

As much as I love originality, I don't understand the premium on these barn finds. It seems like there are only 2 options after you buy it: 1) Restore it to drive, which erases much of what made it special and gave it a premium; or 2) Preserve it, which means it doesn't get driven and will continue to decay since there is rust.

Neither option seems attractive, so who buys these and what do they do with them?

Peter, I agree...unrestored original good driver condition is one thing, a car that needs a full resto? Makes no sense. Brokers and auctions getting rich on this 'trend'
