    Hello,

Another 348 question. When the headlights are on both sides light up. However, when you put the bright lights (hi beams) on, the drivers side light goes out completely.

Is this just a bulb or an electrical issue?

    Any help is appreciated.

    Thanks!

It's just the bulb. There are two light filaments in the bulb. One for the low beam, the other for the high beam. All you have to do is change the bulb.

Thanks ernie. That sounds SOOO much better than 'electrical issues'!!!

Actually, now that I am thinking about this......

Inside each of the headlight clusters that "pop up", it appeares like there were 2 headlights on each side (two on driver's side, two on passenger's side). (Like there were 4 headlights total). On each side there looks like there's one typical headlight, but also one on each side that looks like it has a telescope type looking lens on it.

When the regular lights are on, it looked like all 4 were lit up. When the hi-beams were on, only the 2 on the passenger side were on. The 2 on the driver's side were dark.

Are there 2 headlights or 4? Still a bulb? Sorry if this sounds confusing.....

"When the regular lights are on, it looked like all 4 were lit up." -- not a good sign. My understanding of proper operation matches ernie's --

Low beams on -- only the low-beam filament in the outside bulb on each side should be lit.

High beams on -- all four bulbs should be lit (although the outside bulb is now using it's high-beam filament).

I don't have a 348 schematic, but a disconnected/bad ground at the headlights might cause such odd behavior.

Yes, looked like all 4 were on when in 'regular' mode. Only the two passenger side ones were on when in "hi-beam" mode.

Although all 4 bulbs appear "on" in the low beam mode, can you tell if it's a case of the passenger side low beam working normally, but the other bulbs (in this mode), while on, are actually a little dim? Or alternatively, is the inboard high beam bulb on the passenger side much brighter when it's "on" in the high beam mode compared to when it's (wrongly) "on" in the low beam mode?

If so, I would be looking to see if the driver's side headlight bulb filaments share a common ground and if it's OK.

    Confusing.

It sounds like it's more than a bulb.
