According to Ferrari the L-serie Dino had originally a heat shield on top of the exaust system. The same heat shield fitted to the 206 GT exaust system.
I´m wondering if that was actually the fact or no heat shield was fitted?!
Despite my L-serie has original 8700 miles, the exaustsystem was changed at one point in time and no head shield is fitted. Even no mounting to fix the heat shield on the exaust system.
    Anybody any idea?

    Regards Matthias

    Hi Matthias:

Those shields are on my "L". Threaded mounts are welded on headers which receive the bolts. The bolts pass through the shields and them in place when tightened.

Let me know if you need a photo or a paper template.

    Cheers,

    Keith

Lovely Keith. I´m restaurating #01100 and I would be very interested in a photo or paper template.
I do have the heat shield. Volkmar reproduced it for our 206 GTs.
I´m interested in the welded mounts and their positions.
    Regards Matthias

It looks like the heat shield on the Stratos.

Let me figure out how to get decent photos of the header mounting points without removing the headers themselves. Taking the heat shield off isn't too bad but the header on the firewall side has to go in before the engine and the other header made a mess of my knuckles last time.

    Cheers...Keith

I have the welded, threaded lugs on my headers but no shields. Surre would help to keep the noise and heat down.

The threaded lugs should look like on the right exhaust manifold:

Did all "L" have the header shields? Mine, # 1104, is at the end of the line, almost an "M", so don't really know... have no lugs on them.

Alberto, that`s a very good question. As probably hardly any original L-serie exaust system survived, a very difficult to answer. I think we have to assue, yes the exaust shield was on all L-serie Dino, even late once.

    Matthias,
Did you ever find out if the shield on top of the exhaust was installed on the L-series cars....I do not have monuting studs on my exhaust to fix such shield onto.

    Regards

    Peter
