Joe, you are oh so right about what the publishers sometimes do, and it's even worse when writing articles and reviews for magazines. Often the "Editors" don't know that much about the subject and will arbitrarily delete or ad information, which they should not. I've been a victim of some "Editors" whims a number of times.

Indeed, it comes with the process. A couple of vital pictures disappeared also!

Having said that, the publisher is looking at the book as a commercial venture and there are logistical & space constraints, so things have a way of winding up on the editing room floor!

After publishing three books myself, I still find room for errors and omissions. Even hired proofreaders and editors miss stuff. It is all part of the business.

What is this talk of a reprint edition?
I am still waiting for the original edition of this 288 GTO book! Amazon.ca claims the book was listed in error as being available to pre-order (since September 2013 last year) on their web site. They will advise within 7 days.
Good thing I still have a few other GTO books on the shelf...

At some point when the initial printing runs out, they will reprint a 2nd edition, almost the same save for a few corrections. That's the way it works, most especially because the first printing is of a limited number. The publisher is running the business speculating that he will sell all the books. Clearly, margins are very small, so they don't want to over-extend. When the 2nd printing will be is hard to say, but I'm guessing it will be within a year.

    ok now i am intrigued!
joe, i will be buying a copy, but might just wait for the second printing, and then have it signed by you.

btw, if you do a book on the 930 let me know since my dad just finished restoring his 77 and it is available for viewing if you need it.
and if you ever do a book on the f40, i will pass my data to you as well.

in the meantime, please continue to ignore *******s like 'bloomberg'. criticism is expected and you are handling that well, but unnecessarily rude behavior is another thing altogether.

Ross, good to hear from you, just responded to your PM!

As I said in my PM a 2nd printing is likely 6 months away, and maybe even a year, and remember its always nice to have the 1st printing, omissions and all. Character!

Indeed, when a published work is being critiqued, one must accommodate all views positive & negative, and sometimes people come around when you explain the intended creation.

I keep getting asked to do an F40 book http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/142844821-post16.html and I will think about it in the future!

Please post details of your dad's 930 in my 930 thread: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/porsche/344030-930-turbo-carrera-103.html that will be much appreciated!

Joe, your book is in my hands today, given to me as a token of gratitude by fellow member, Franck, for letting him drive my GTO a few times.

My compliments to your challenge in creation of this lovely book on GTO. I have only gone over it briefly (it was presented to me this morning) and I can appreciate the time and effort.

    Thank You.

    w/ smiles

Received another kind e-mail this evening and I'll share it in complete form, I'm sure the sender (F40 & 333 SP owner) won't mind.

    "From: Rosso
    Subject: 288 GTO BOOK
    Date: January 16, 2014 5:57:45 PM PST
    To: [email protected]

Santa finally arrived with a copy of your 288 GTO book.
Well worth the wait, your book is absolutely outstanding.
Text and pictures are superb. Hope that you sell a million copies.

Was enlisted to drive a 288 GTO from the local hotel to the concours field for the 2008 FCA Meet outside Toronto. Typical 80's Ferrari 5-speed gearbox that is ALWAYS warmed up before driving. Stunning piece of performance art. Had to kid the owner later about the luxurious wool and leather interior in addition to the rear vision capacity; he is a skilled racer, so I was chiding him that he needed a spartan car with no rear view like an F40! Also remember the original owner couple who brought their 288 GTO to FCA 1999 in Atlanta. Local dealership owner also had one.

    Best to you and yours.

But... hope you eventually get bored and do another book...

    Dan"

A few more, here & there:

    Amazon by Jaime Velasco Bonilla:
"Sackey's passion and love for the 288 GTO is evident in this incredible book. A must-have for any serious car connoisseur."

    Amazon by Bradley R. Cook:
"I finally received this book yesterday. I was absolutely delighted!
Yes, with this type of book I expect to read some historical and technical information, driving reports, technical specs. . . essentially the sort of thing I would expect to find in an automotive magazine. And this book has it.
But the main point of a "coffee table book" is always the illustrations, and this volume presents some of the finest automotive photography I have ever seen. A bit is reproduced from other sources, but most of the photos appear to have been taken by the author or his pro photog wife. The photography is second to none. It seems that some of the 1-star reviewers couldn't be satisfied no matter what Mr. Sackey had done. Give a few people a chance to criticize, and they seize the opportunity to chew others' efforts up, spit them out, and stomp on them. Truly sad.

    Amazon by Furman O'Dell:
"Joe Sackey's book on the Ferrari 288 GTO is a nice overall review of the model with great photography, technical details and a full list of production serial numbers.
Though the 288 GTO has captured the imagination of car fans for 30 years, there is a dearth of books on the subject. This book should be part of any Ferrari or GTO fan's collection."

    Via e-mail:
"Joe, I got my copy of your book a few weeks ago and just want to let you know- great job! I know you put a lot of energy into creating it, and it shows. Very well done. Kevin"

I'd be honored to do so, thank you for the compliments! That's all we wanted to do, exactly as you stated. We never set out to write a history tome, and I'm glad most people understand that. Thanks for the thoughts.
