Yes, to change to a single disc, you need Clutch, pressure plate and flywheel. Several thousand dollars. No benefit no matter what Vince says. He doesn't like my clutch. I don't like his. We disagree. We're partners on the 358 race car. Disagreeing on clutches for our street cars is what we do. :)

348's are such great cars trees can fall on them and they keep running

For that money I'd live with that chunk of lead in the olde car. ;) It sure beats the 4 puck CF disk in the 358.

If that 4 puck is what I think it is light 4 plate, maybe Tilton or AP, You don't know what you are missing. If you are having trouble with it you aren't driving fast enough and your RPM's are too low.

.........put a tubi style exhaust and replace the cats with straight test pipes then tell me a 348 doesn't scream. Nothing sounds better ?!?? As for power. The 348 has plenty to play with !

Meanwhile, the garage had no pre-1999 records. So I asked the guy selling to send them to me. Unfortunately no response yet. I'm doubting much exists, so I will probably have to pass up on it.

What happened before 1999 has little bearing. The most important thing is what is the condition now!
If you're just looking for a reason not to buy it, just don't.

He came through with the list. It will need a complete cam belt change, changing the bearing, etc + the flywheel grease and cluch will need to be done apparently.

Based on the fact that the car will need all belts etc changed, the clutch probably needs to be replaced and the flywheel regreased I took the cost of parts for these into account ca. $4500 and did an offer that was exactly that much lower.

He refused, so the deal fell through.
