On other forums I made this suggestion but on this forum I feel it should really be a requirement. I was thinking of this last night and just read TrojanFan's post so I said time to post:

At a minimum, I feel first name and location (city) should be required. I say this for 3 reasons:

    1) let's make the forum a bit more personal

    2) many posts on many threads are somewhat location specific

    3) I just don't understand nameless activity and I feel people are more likely to shoot there mouth off without credentials

It would also be fantastic if all owners listed what they own, year, model and colors, perhaps also the date they purchased said car.

    What do you guys think?

I think location should be a requirement. Names might be a little harder to enforce.

I do think Ferraris owned should be in the signature if possible or made featured in the profile of each post. I added it to my signature.

For the record, at one point I listed my last name too. I'm not suggesting this. First name should not be a big deal. The only reason I pulled my last name is due to the google bot. I own a business and don't need my customers's knowing I own a Ferrari (many of them do) but some will feel inferior or intimidated and I don't want that. My website is listed in my profile so it's not difficult to gather my last name.

1st name, location, and car would work fine. Been here for over a year and hasn't been a problem. Maybe I'm just to far south?!:)

    Exactly.

There's an excess of anonymity on the internet. If you're giving advice or offering anything for sale I need to know who you are. If you're looking for help, it's a good idea to complete your profile first.

If your profile is blank, this is what comes to mind. ;)

My full name, location and cars have been visible from day one and in a year have never received any unsolicited communication.

I never understood the anonymity thing myself. I am on some professional forums with similar disclosure and have never had an issue either.

I'm not in favor of legislation though. The posts from people with no disclosure or aliases are just suspect.

The subscribed forums are not searchable by Google. If you want to keep something off the web, post it there.

Yes Tim, but Edward Snowden has all of that information on his laptop, so you will be outed as soon as we extradite him back to the U.S.

Going back to Dave's original questions however, when it comes to these make/model forums, even name & location is not enough to really verify credentials. To me that is the purpose of the Owners Forum. However, I agree with his assessment in this regard:
    1) Users should at least be Silver subscribed or have a long registration history with the site if they want to establish credibility.
    2) Basic details in your profile such as first name and city adds a human touch to the interaction between users.

-Greg (yes, this is really my first name.)

I'd just like to point out that many of you that have voted "Fine as-is" are ones that do display your first name and city. That's not what I was meaning with this thread. The point was to suggest others to do the same.

Addressing a locationless screen name such as "JOEBLOWSFERRARI" is less than personal.

Having the city/town (or nearest) is very helpful, especially for technical posts.

Car type for this forum, 348 or 355, should be mandatory.

    I voted no.

We already have an owners only forum where you have to prove you own a Ferrari AND have been verified by at least 3 other know owners, or a moderator, to get in the owners forum. No need for us to do another one. Leave it as is.

What does this have to do with displaying your first name and location? Should we all search the owner's forum every time a non identified member posts?

I have developed a profile of the folks on the 355 board based on their posts. After a short period you know who is real and who is not. Right Dave?

Yes, you are correct. My point is a first name is still nice along with a city. I just don't see how that exposes anyone.

Me, like many others do not want a public profile with accurate contact information.

I do not need my clients, customers, suppliers and employees knowing I own / play with Ferrari's. I'll reveal that to them as I see fit....not online in some Google search.

Kinda agree although I voted first name and city.
Instead I would like to see owners identified by something when you post along with the avatar. This way comments from non owners would be immediately identified.
