    I love it.
I would take it over a California in a heartbeat if I was interested in an open-top car.

I love the 991... but I'm sorry, I'm just not diggin' this Targa version.

If you want a convertible, get a convertible. If you want a coupe, get a coupe.

It's just a weird hybrid I don't get the use for. And I especially don't like the roof part being fabric.

I'd rather just get a coupe with the giant pano/sunroof option.

Yes, the nice thing about the manual top is that there's nothing to break and probably less weight involved with the mechanism.

It seems like a bit of German overengineering. Cool, but with carbon fibre available they could have made a seriously lightweight removable panel.

Agree. Also would take it over the Merc SL in a heartbeat.

My first impression was "very cool" but the whole thing seems a bit sillier with each rethink. Hopefully the mechanical and electronic systems powering it age well.

Here is a break-down of the roof... Gotta respect ze' German engineering.

I would expect a few of these will break though... it just looks fragile... especially if you deploy at 100mph.

For people saying just get a convertible I'd say Clarkson is not far off when he says any bloke over 25 in a convertible looks like a prat. Personally I don't like them as you just feel too exposed. Never felt that way with the targa roof removed in my 328GTS.

Yeah, Porsche should use that valuable space to tell people what options it has

    PORSCHE
    911 Carrera 4S Targa
    Optional carbon ceramic brakes
    Sport Chrono
    10-speaker stereo

Now that's a proper tail badge!*

Not to worry, they'll simply upcharge for both the added badging AND for badge delete. With a surcharge for wiseacre internet comments like mine!

It's funny they've harkened back to tradition on everything BUT badging.

I've been at the Detroit Auto Show the last couple of days. The Targa is gorgeous in person. Really well done. I predict it will be really popular. Designed by Porsche designer Grant Larson.

I think its refreshing. I really don't like the original Targas. This works. I think they will sell a lot.

Brings me back to the late 70's early 80's, my 1st Porsche was a white targa. I love it!

    100% retro-kitsch.

I like it better than the original, but it certainly wouldn't be my first choice.

    I like the Turbo S, it's gorgeous!

People want the convenience. They are also targeting female drivers - I cannot see a female executive trying to wrestle with the targa top manually.

I imagine he was linking the video so the lazy (me) do not need to search youtube for it on our own...

Will definitely look at picking up one of these as a DD in a few years.

Id like to see the b pillar in body color. Tired of retro designs......Mechanics are awesome though and the overall car has good proportions compared to the targas of yester year...

Got rid of it. Yes, it was close to a powered targa IMO which is why I didn't like it after having an F430 spider. Certainly not worth the 30 grand they charged for it.

This however is even worse. At least with the 458 the enter top came off. Is it too difficult to lift off one carbon fibre panel without 100 lbs of extra weight and the additional cost?

The C7 Corvette has a standard CF roof that weighs 11 lbs. Is this really a problem at needs all this mechanical crap to move around?

The idea for Targa's was to make the roof come off easily without adding a lot of weight or complexity and having greater rigidity than a full convertible. I think for 11 lbs, I could take this off and save thousands and the weight and the complexity with no problem.

I do agree though that women will like this idea. That's not a knock, it's just reality.

When you take that CF roof off you take some trunk space correct?

Have you seen it stowed yet? Does it take too much of the trunk to still take luggage for a weekend away?

My CGT with top off can carry 3 pairs of underwear and 2 toothbrushes. That's about it.
Too be fair with top In it only doubles storage :)

The new Zo6 is outstanding looking. Hot in the 3 colors I've seen. Looking forward to driving one for sure. What color will you get?

I don't see the point. IMO a targa is supposed to be something you can just pop the top off of to get a taste of open air motoring. This thing might as well be a full fledged convertible.

Thats my High school pal !

All of a sudden the car looks stunning !

    ;)

Seriously the lines are great. It must have been a nightmare for the engineers to get it to work right.

It stores in the trunk area. My understanding is that there is still some storage under the roof.

All the C7 targa roofs are CF. Painted CF is standard and exposed CF more by I think a grand.
