That car is heavily optioned and the pictures don't match the description (has a beige, not black, interior.) I will inquire about it although I don't like the light top. Pricing seems absolutely insane. Given the description requests you ask for the Used Car Specialists, I have to believe that is a used car. EDIT: Just Googled the VIN. It is a used car.

i briefly drove the v8 S convertible on a short track. and i must say i was seriously impressed with what jaguar has done. both inside and out look better in person than in pictures. more particularly the interior, it looked more plush and luxurious in real life (but rather plasticky in pictures). the auto tranny shifted flawlessly and precisely (even leaving it in auto sport mode), suspension was good and the car rotates pretty well. the engine is superb and so much fun to punch. it's no porsche or ferrari in handling and you don't expect that from a heavy boulevard cruiser IMO. but it sure is fun to drive, lots of speed and good looks. i like it because it has a hot rod, bad boy feel which i prefer for cars mainly used for commuting. just like the way i preferred the C63 to the M3. i was telling the dealer (same opinion as another car enthusiast friend of mine that drove the car), the biggest problem for jaguar is overcoming the stereotype associated with the jaguar brand. and that's pretty difficult. but if you were to blindfold a person and just base everything on the drive, it sure is superb and fun. can't wait to see the coupe version. i might just have to try one for myself.
thank you for posting this. the coupe in R trim is on my short list. looking forward to having a drive and closer inspection.
Maserati has a similar problem. But, if the car is good, people will flock to it over time. The biggest issue with both Jag and Maserati is the cars are just overpriced and depreciation is extreme. For a lot of people looking at them, it's difficult to justify.
The problem with the Maser (at least for me) is that it is underpowered considering its price and competition. It is a nice looking car and I have seen young people like myself liking the design, however, I am still put off by the lack of power. Perhaps I am just a fanatic for fast cars. But it all boils down to for the same money I can get a better performing car from another brand, hence, it becomes a value proposition. And the jaguar has none of that problems especially with the 550h R-version. They have a good chassis and a powerful car here at a reasonable price. But then again their brand is associated with the older folks. My friend and I were saying they should invest in marketing and getting the new F-type associated with younger crowd. The only thing I'm seeing is Marcus Lemonis (The Profit, CNBC) driving an Orange F-type on his show. And I don't think that will cut it. My friend was saying something like how IronMan made the R8 popular. Anyway, it surely is a fun car and I hope Jag finds success with it. I'll be for sure be looking forward to the Coupe R.
I test drove the V8 extensively on the road. The biggest problem with the car is the weight. Almost 4000lbs!!! Both a 911 and a boxster will walk away from the f type on any twisty road or track. Also I always prefer the linear responsiveness and power delivery of a normally aspirated engine vs super or turbo charged. Also chassis stiffness was not up to Porsche standards nor was the quality control.
My understanding is that the V8s are not selling. Most are probably base model 340 HP V6's that start at 70K for a stripped version. With the next jump of $11,000 for an additional 50 HP. My feeling is that that is too expensive for the performance for a 2 seat sports/gt. I think it's sad that people buy cars because they saw them in the movies. But, let's face it, it's been driving Aston Martin sales for 50 years.
the jag crowd is older, much older. when i was in my thirties i would go to jag club meetings. nothing but 70 yr olds.....
I dunno. I saw a guy in LA yesterday driving an Ftype and he was early 30's for sure. If people think a car is "cool", they will buy it at a younger age.
i'm only 33 and i'm looking forward to the Ftype coupe R. and i don't think the car is expensive, the top of the line R version with 550hp cost less than an optioned out 991 Carrera S. i'm not sure about the v6 pricing but i'm assuming they are still cheaper than the competition. as to it weighing 4000lbs., it certainly is not a track car and there's no way it will out handle the 991 or boxster. but in carving canyons, i don't think the porsches can leave this car behind. it is a good alternative car to the porsches. it's like a scalpel v. a sledgehammer. M3 v. C63. for a commuter car, i prefer the latter.
Yah but the 991 Carrera S and the R type coupe are no were near similar. If you just want a lot of HP for the buck, get the new Vette Z06. It has 625 hp at about the same price and a manual option or the same 8 speed auto as the Jag. Unfortunately not available until later this year.
While their are differences between a Carreras S and an F-Type, they have the same target market. And for most buyers of these cars looks still matter. Saying the C7 is the best looking of recent Corvettes is damning with faint praise. The F-Type is beautiful.
i agree. i need to note that i am a LONG time Porsche owner and have had at least one in my garage for over 25 years. this jag is FAR, FAR sexier than ANY new Porsche and i suspect the R version of the coupe will easily keep pace with the 991 on the road course in the hands of most and will trounce the Porsche in the straight line...let's not even talk about the jag once the tuners start to play with the blower!! that said, while jag is clearly of the mind that their f-type is a competitor to the latest generation 911, i think most folks wanting a Porsche will not consider the jag as to this point, they do not have the cache of the Porsche brand. i personally would not spend a minute looking at a 991 if parked next to a F type coupe. the jag is properly sized and actually delicate when compared to the HUGE and hulking sized 991. the jag is a movie star!!! in the secondary market w/ < 5k miles on the clock, the F-type coupe and vert will be the best sports car bargain on the planet!! of course this is just my opinion. pcb
I'm a huge Porsche nerd too, and if I was looking for a new sporty/gt car for DD or weekend cruising use, it would be the F type. I still think a 991 would trounce it on a road course though
chas, i am certain the coupe will get ample air time and be compared to both the normally aspirated 991 and the turbo. we will see how it performs against the 991...the turbo will be out of reach on the road course for sure. by the way...i hope to always have a 930 in the garage to call to duty any chance you will be in charlotte in the spring or summer? btw, 80 degs in San Diego today
Ironically one of my neighbors just brought home a British Racing Green V8 F last night so he called me over to check it out. I personally think the styling is disjointed. . My wife, who loves Ferrari and italian styling thinks the car is ugly. So sexiness of a car is in the eyes of the beholder. Btw, my neighbor is a life long Jag guy and he is 72 years old.
respectfully, I was referring to the coupe primarily. come back to us and tell us your thouhgts on the styling after you have seen the r coupe in the flesh. pictures do not do that car justice!
I own a Porsche 991 and think the new ftype is a more attractive car. The torque and gearbox in the R should make it a blast to use as a street car/daily driver - similar to the CLK black series but a more compliant ride. It is not a track car. I'm planning to give the car a hard look but need to drive it. Jag will be served to get demos out into the market as new buyers won't order this car w/out driving it the way that Porsche, Ferrari and MBZ customers will order cars based in pictures alone.
Jaguar, and now owners Tata, were & are smart to break away from the old Jaguar green paint, wood & old fashioned leather ideas of a Jag, and go in "new" directions, the F-type does that, Aston Martin sleek style with lower Jag prices So long as they don't fall into Ford's old trick, of trying to extend a chassis life cycle to 10-15-20 years, with minor updates, or face changes, to try and mask that it's the same basic car underneath! Not that they should make a "completely" new car every 5 years, but at least try to refresh more completely, and evolve the chassis at least every 7-10 to keep abreast with the modern standard
I have yet to see a single F type on the road which I find odd since there are a lot of I want the newest thing types around here. Though as far as fast coupes go I've already committed to a white three pedal Z06, but the F type is a good looking car but it is not what I'm looking for.
I've sat in the conv and the car is much smaller in person, you also sit very low in the car. It is nice looking, but not better than a 991 imo. I still see Jag as the car for older folks and tilted towards the female.
Let's keep the focus of this discussion on the coupe. I assure the r coupe is not a chick car and if a 70 yr old bad ass wants to drive the beast...woot woot.
