There is at least one US guy in the AMOC Vanquish forum, I think he knows the US Vanquish market very good. Cheers Bjoern
There are a couple of us on there (AZ, TX, NY, etc), but you will find it's a different crowd compared to BMW, Porsche, or Ferrari owners who I find are all different in there attitudes on the various forums. The active Brits and German moderator on the Forum seem to be more "concours and show" oriented vs driver oriented IMO and silightly over biased about the car - but you will find them all a great group of guys all around and knowledgable about the brand and car for the most part.
Yes, I found some members from the US. I don't think the UK members are over biased about the car. The UK guys seem to be very cool about the Vanquish, the well known German moderator and other German owners (I met one who owns three Vanqs), too. It's a very nice community. I live in Hamburg, Germany - kind of a wealth city with many nice cars, but the Vanquish is rare. I only know one other Vanquish (Non-S) here. Owner is an old man, like many Vanquish owners (AMOC guys seem to be younger). They could be scared by my colored shoes, golden sunglasses and loose tongue. I enjoy the AMOC community, they helped me a lot and gave me much more joy on the Vanquish. Please talk to Pete and still his fears. ;-) Cheers Bjoern
The AM forum is a great source for information and the right place to hear what actual owners have to say. As I have mentioned before, there is too much chatter from people who have never owned or driven the car. You will soon find it is one of your favorite cars if you buy one. Keep in mind that the car issues faced by some of the europeans are much different than here in the US. Our eurpean counterparts tend to drive their cars far more and the UK weather is like Seattle (wet and high moisture) which is the reason you hear of the corrosion issues there and most likely will not face here. Hard choice indeed - not to steer you away from the Vanquish, but I think I would buy the SLS. I love the Vanquish because it is one of those cars that you know is "special" when you drive it, but when you compare the fit/finish and drivability to that of an MB - you find it comes up short. The quality of teh SLS is so much better and the technology packed in such a modern car is not matched buy a 90s era tech Aston. I have a SL55 and when I compare both cars everything about the SL wins except for looks.
You're right. If it was just about perfection, I'd have my garage full of Mercs (again). But if it comes to emotions, the Vanquish wins. No need to talk about the sound. I really like the Mercedes V8, but the Vanquish sound is unbeatable. If I had not found the AMOC Vanquish community, I doubt having bought my second Vanquish. I never could resist its sexy looks, but my first Vanquish experience made me think, Clarkson was right. Shame on me, it was all my fault. I hope you'll have the opportunity to test drive a Vanquish (or did you have?), nothing's better than feeling the car.
Here's a nice assessment - the car still looks great. [ame]http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=RzohSmhSqfY[/ame]
I am going to look at the vanquish tom p has at autosportdesigns in the first week of Feb. I think tom can tell me a lot about the cars and it looks like he has a nice example for sale...so does steven Kessler.
I am sure he will. I think the cars are a winner it appears several are coming onto the market as the car starts to crest over the 10yo stage. Have you driven one yet? Wanted to hear your thoughts/impressions if you have (how did it meet your expectations).
i planned on that ryan. i was also planning on discussing the car with you if i choose to get serious about his car. i know he has an asking price and a transactional price on most of his cars...i would love to get your thoughts on the delta that could be?
i have only looked at them to this point. only two to date. both were not the car i was hoping for cosmetically and had more miles on them than i feel comfy with...so far. the cars were also in the show room and not easily moved thus i have chosen not to put them through the effort as I was not a player on those actual cars. when i drive one i will report back certainly. I really have appreciated this thread and the input from actual owners. Thank you all. pcb
Pete, as I said, the Vankie from AD is said to be the best one available on the whole market at the moment. I am excited to get your feedback. Have fun testing it and feel to ask anything. Cheers Bjoern
I have been looking at buying a Vanquish as well. I thought I would pass along that a few weeks ago I bid on a 2002 Vanquish on ebay that was at a Porsche dealer. I have not seen the car in person so it may have had some issues although it looked nice in the pictures and had just under 20k miles. Anyway, today I got an email from the dealer saying that they were going to move the car today and that they were prepared to sell the car at a great price. I responded asking what they would sell it for, but got a response saying that they had already found a buyer and sold the car for $44,500. I assume they could have gotten more if they weren't in such a hurry and the fact that they were in such a hurry indicates it may have had a problem, but I thought I would pass this info on to anyone who is looking as it is difficult to determine what cars actually sell for. I think the market for non-S cars is pretty soft and anyone buying should be hard nosed when negotiating. Hope this is helpful.
Hey Bjoern my friend! How are you? I have nothing heard about you for a long time! What happend to your Porsche 930 Turbo? Are you going to purchase a 575 Maranello in the future?
Hi Adrian. The 930 is fine and sleeping in a garage. No, I won't buy a 575 in future. At the moment I don't have any plans for new cars. I'm waiting for my new Range Rover, that's the only change at the moment. Cheers
Just to share my completely unsolicited opinion, I agree that the prices on non-S cars is, or at least should be, quite soft. I have seen what look to be fine examples of '05-'06 S cars with proper mileage and history in the high $90s-low $100s. The '02, 2+0 at AD looks quite nice, but is $20k+ over market price, IMHO. They (AD) are trading on their reputation with that car. It may be the best non-S available, but for me, it would have to be much, much more....
That car is not overpriced. This is the price for a well serviced Non-S in perfect condition. If you see Non-S cars for 50-60k $, be very careful, there could be a hitch and the car could be a waste of money. You should not look for a cheap one. Better pay some more $ and get a perfect car. The S-Vanquish is more, sometimes much more expensive. Low 100s $ sounds good to me. I paid 155k $ for a 2,500 mls garage queen in 2012. Expensive, but worth it. I´ve seen some cars for a much lower price, but with suspect history. In the US the Vanquish seems to be underpriced, at least compared to Europe.
that new vanquish cabrio looks good too. and the 2+2 aspect would be an easier sell on the home front too.
