Was the one sold for 87k numbers matching?

 

I shake my head when I see this as well.

A friend of mine went last year and saw the same thing live, he said there was a difference between the cars, but not enough to justify such a gap, both were 67 vettes.

Some look like crap up close compared to tv.

 

IIRC I've only seen two. One was in a museum in FL and the other was at an event at a local track (NOLA Motor)...

Amazing numbers for the Gun Metal Gray '57 T-Bird. E-Code is factory Dual Quads carburetors and a cam with higher lift/duration, typically producing about 285Hp.

Didn't catch what transmission was in the car, but if it was the automatic, it would not be (IMO) that desirable. However, if the standard 3-speed manual with Over-Drive transmission was in the car, that will in fact make the car special as very few were ordered with these options.

Can not be certain of the exact numbers produced in 1957, but believe there were only a few hundred built as E-Code cars. The more rare F-Code cars, or more commonly known as the Super Charged cars, were produced in very small quantities.

As to the Yellow car, thought it was a D-Code car: standard single 4 barrel carb, with the automatic transmission.... Much more common than the E or F Code cars and therefore, the hammer price was appropriate.

Clearly, was very happy to see this record setting sale of the car in question, $330K with buyer premium. This sale should make my '57 Gun Metal Gray E-Code with the 3-speed OD transmission worth significantly more, or at least allow for some spirited debate over value.

same here, gray/ red is a great color combo for that car.

Was the yellow car restored by the Minter (sp) family? They seem to bring the biggest money.

 

the first gray car was a MINTER restored car. absolutely perfect. they are considered the number 1 restorer in the world of baby birds.... someone wanted it.

the second car was restored by ? and i don't think it was done to the same level or quality from what i recall from the broadcast chatter.

 

that being said, i saw a 78 pace car vette on MSO sell for $75k the other night.....

it's BJ. not sure any of those prices apply to the real world.. mostly owners wishing they did.

It seems like the entire auction culture is getting out of hand. I guess the only good thing about this is that it's the best time to sell.

If had a 250 GTO id be selling it now.
