Anyone know if a bolt or cap goes on this threaded nipple on a stage 3 exhaust, thanks. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Thanks guys. I am helping coledoggy install this new Capristo this weekend. He had a challenge exhaust on that we removed, and there was no similar bung on that exhaust. What do we need to do with this? Should we just cap it off, or is there a thermocouple that was removed at some point that we need to try to figure out where it disappeared to? Is there any down side to running without the thermocouple?
Found another issue, the heat shield that separates the muffler from the bumper is going to be flush against the muffler when installed. Any recommendations? Image Unavailable, Please Login
My Capristo has not got that top thread. But mine is 8 years old now. Which thermocouple fits into that? My lower de cat pipes hold all of my thermocouples. I guess the threaded ports are on the newer Capristos. I discarded my standard heat shield and coated the inside of my bumpers with heat shield material.
Not all cars have the bypass valve thermocoupler. If yours does not, just plug the hole with a thread plug. BTW, if the challenge exhaust is for sale, PM me..
To tell you the truth I have put the workshop manual back in a dark cupboard. I am quite frankly sick of seeing/studying it. I used it extensively during the engine rebuild and to be quite honest, it was full of inaccuracies, bad translations and misinformation . Once one uses it for more than looking up tyre pressures ect, you quickly see its flawed. Which reminds me, the electrical diagrams can be as bad. I won't bother looking
Well, I don't have the details memorized or I would have told you Here is another method: Lay under your car and look for the bypass thermocouple, if you have one then you need the bung, if not, you don't
No you mis understand me mate. All I was saying was my Capristos unit does not have a threaded hole for a coupling. I know were my couplings are, there in my de cat pipes. There is abserlutly nothing I don't know about my engine both inside and out after the autopsy/rebuild.
Yes, I understand. For clarity and for others, some cars only have 2 thermocouples, one in each primary CAT. Other cars have a 3rd, installed in the muffler at the connection to the bypass valve. Cars with 3 also have 3 thermocouple ECU's
Yes it does, though the noise is not as high as mine. That one sounds nearer a f430 in its deep tone. Has that car still got its cats?
Back to technical stuff, does anybody use the factory heat shield with a Capristo? Any harm if the heat shield is installed firmly pressed against the muffler with no air space in between? I think we can get it attached, but it's going to be a very tight fit.
I too am interested in a Capristo exhaust. Currently my car has 360 challenge headers into a bullet style muffler. No Y pipe, completely separate halves. I don't mind the sound now but it doesn't have that high pitched wail I like. If I get a capristo can I run without the upper valve? Does one just block it off at the muffler then? The 360 headers don't have the additional piping for the bypass. I also have a full 355 challenge exhaust with the bypass (no valve) but would prefer not to use it. I don't care it if it's loud - in fact the louder/nastier the better since my 355 is a challenge car. When this car fires up I would like it to bark and make everyone aware it's there. When driving at full song it would be nice if it had that wail.
Coledoggy getting on the highway about 1/4 mile from where I was standing. http://youtu.be/rwYABeUzkco
No issue, that's how it was on my car with both the capristo and stock muffler, heat shield hugs it pretty tightly. Which challenge exhaust was removed, the muffled or straight through one?
