Thanks. So according to this, on a successful reserve auction with an on-site buyer BJ gets both a buyers premium of 10% and a sellers commission of 10% for a total of 20% of the hammer price on the sale of a car. I've always assumed that the auction company's main revenue was the buyers premium and that the seller received roughly the hammer price minus minor fees -- and I thought that was lot, especially compared to commission rates other high dollar assets like stocks or real estate. Sounds like a great business to be in...

On very important autos, the kind that will draw people and their money to the auctions, I have been told the seller's commission can be negotiable as the auction house will obviously need cars like this and will make additional money on ticket sales and catalog sales because of them. Don't think this F40 qualifies per se, but you never know.

Anyway, the world's largest tent probably isn't cheap.

I would be very interested to see what needs to be done to the car and where short cuts/improvisational were made for the "Rebuild" of this car.

you didn't see the episode? it doesn't show all and "the help" was all the best Ferrari people in DFW (Boardwalk, Stuarts, and Mike Loungo), but the show does show and explain many of the short cuts and "mods".

I am not knocking any of those guys, I simply meant it would be interesting to see how this car would survive a thorough inspection. The car was heavily damaged and not having access to certain OEM replacement parts, they had to be creative. I am not aware of anyone explaining the compromises made and how they would effect the cars ability to perform like an F40 did when delivered from the factory. If I missed that part, I may be mistaken.

It was one when a bunch of stuff was going on, I don't remember that being clearly talked about and explained. I will search and watch again so I can comment appropriately. :)

A great resource for this Ferrari (or any other similarly disposed) would be Ferrari Classiche as Ive mentioned before, and I would not discount the possibility that it will go there and be returned to its former guise, then redelivered as a "new" car. Several F40s have been given new life by their maker in this way.

    ##NOTE ##

Just to be clear, the car showed up on our doorstep , with minimal advance notice,
was dissasembled and removed from the department within days of its arrival. The film crew did shoot a few scenes and parting shots in the parking lot, which made it into the TV show.

Boardwalk Ferrari did not have anything to do with the repair or recreation of this car.

Nor did Ferrari FNA/SpA to the best of my knowledge.

Yes, also shots inside your service bay. I'm just saying the best Ferrari hands in DFW were on this car.

$675 seems like way too much for that car.

but if we take that as a serious number, then mint f40's over a million make sense.

yes, I don't know if most good cars at Scottsdale go at 10-30% premiums or does Scottsdale just always set the future where the year is going? this car should be about 75% of a nice original f40.

Well, I know you're not alone but I couldn't do that. I put 300 miles on mine the first weekend I had it. Not that it's a contest or anything. It's interesting that the F40 is the one car that attracts all types of owners.

haha I put 20k km on mine the first year I had it, and my Patek is battle worn..
But each to their own I suppose :)

Personally I wanted to have the memories, smells, stories and experience of owning an F40.. That I have in spades now :)
