Anyone have sources and suggestions for 3500 GT carpet? 101.2786 is long overdue and has its original wool loop (relatively flat) carpeting. It's a rolling restoration so I am not looking for concours materials at this time. I'd be comfortable cutting and adding the binding myself. Further, anyone had success using DynaMat or equiv to reduce cabin heat? Thanks!

Have a look at Wilton I: Auto Carpet, Wilton Auto Carpet, Trunk Lining Carpet - HirschAuto.com. Bill Hirsch sources this from a long-established mill in England on an exclusive basis. It is widely used by top interior guys.

This was the best match for my Lancia Flaminia Touring, assembled in the same building next to the 3500 GT. The pile is about 40% deeper than original, but I can live with that. Frank (Portenos) kindly send me a piece of the carpet he sourced in Italy for a 3500 GT restoration to compare, but in my opinion the Hirsh was better quality and more similar to the original.

Cloth edging for carpets as installed by Touring can be sourced from Woolies in England: Woolies Trim - Cotton Carpet Binding.

The DynaMat installed in my E-type makes a big difference in heat transfer. In a car like a 3500 Gt without a tight-fitting console, I would definitely use it.

If you car still has original carpets, it would be wise to retain them in a box for future patterns and material samples.

Thank you for the thorough message and, especially, your personal recommendations. I wish I had my own loom. . and new how to use it. Not!

In the midst of stripping off the spray-on vinyl color with acetone. . hoping to bring this decent interior back to a more natural state. Leather gets a bit less pliable after fifty years. Feeding the hides each week along the way. An enthusiast's work is never done.

Fortunately, I have a laborer for many of the more mundane tasks. Springtime is just around the corner . . .

    Thank you, again.

I used a grey Wilton Wool 1 from Hirsch on an Iso Grifo. Very dense and superb quality with proper backing. I think you will like it.

Thank you, Ivan. I've been using your online article as my bible for this process... Although I'm having the best results using acetone rather than laquer thinner.

Doug at Riverside Museum told me had a source for the correct looped carpets in a few colors. The silver/blue 3500 in his collection had these carpets and looked perfect! If I remember correctly he told me that Jaques at MSource was in some way involved.

For my Mistral I am going for Wilton from a Belgian company (can't remember the name at the moment).

You can get a sample on ebay with this item number.

    310346260584

It looks identical to the original boot floor carpeting in my Ghibli from the photo.
I have dealt with Jacques on many occasions and found him excellent every time.

    Regards.
