My thoughts too but what would a realistic price be for this car which is purported to be an almost perfect complete restoration. I bet there was over $100K in that car probably even more. Look at what some muscle cars sell for?

100K? If you say so we must assume that the car was just a piece of rust!
Is it make a sense? Here in Italy you can find a good car about 35000 euros and make a cosmetic restore only. Who 'll buy that car at that price in the future? Not many i think...

That is silly....I wonder what the average age of the buyers driving prices up is.

This Montreal does look of very high quality, but still........

It depends on what the person wants when there restoration is done. I know someone who bought a car in very good condition and he could have rescued it into a very fine driver but being that it was 40 years old and low mileage he decided to go through everything and had about 100K in restoration cost alone. So If you took a very nice Montreal and the same ...

Can't disagree. Prices for high quality cars have moved in leaps and bounds. Next highest price was for a white Montreal that sold for $90k at Goodings only a few months ago, which was also a superb car. That said, I had thought that these cars were undervalued by the market in light of other European sports car prices recently, which is one reason why I bought mine this past summer (in addition to having wanted one for years).

I'd wager that we'll see a few more very nice examples up for sale over the next year or two - so long as the market stays frothy - as prices for #1 and #2 cars are finally starting to justify the cost of restoration. I had originally planned on my Montreal remaining a nice cars & coffee type of weekend driver but I'm now starting to reevaluate that line of thinking.

    Nice pool table:)

Your collection looks great...What really amazed me is how big the Alfa 8C is. Such a pretty car, but as big as a small SUV!!!

    I agree!
Too many cars doubled or tripled the value in less than a year and we aren't talking about prototypes, racecars, showcars or last samples survived. This will not be a neverending process....

A German magazine recently published their opinion that very good Montreals keep on gaining value and will enter the six-figure range (in €) soon.

Well, I nevertheless still want to keep mine, but if someone would offer 200k, who knows ... :D

    Cheers, Bernhard

Hi, I hadn't come across this post before!

Let me introduce my Montreal. A true great car.

This one is a 1974 MY. It is preserved in absolutely every part and detail. It is 100% first paint, original upholstery and still bears its original Dunlop Formula 70 tires. I bought the car 2 years ago and it had only one (wealthy Italian) owner before me, who stopped using the car in the mid-80s.

These cars were not considered before, and that makes preserved examples very difficult to find. Actually, I was not particularly looking for a Montreal when I bought it, but I got convinced when I saw the condition of this one. I had it inspected by FIVA experts who rated it A1, so maybe someday I will bring it to some concours, it would probably be a proud contestant, don't you think? :))

Unfortunately, I rarely drive it but each time I do it is pure pleasure. The sound of this V8 is magnificent. The imperfections of the chassis make it even funnier to drive. Rigorous long-arm style driving…

    Cheers

Nice! By any chance, did you purchase that car out of Spain? I love the metallic green on a Montreal. Great color for the car.

I have a '72. Currently rosso but originally arancio. I can't decide whether to sell the car and reallocate the funds towards a 360 spyder, or keep it/restore it. The answer seems to depend on my mood.

The SPICA is so damn finicky. When it runs well, it's sweet to drive in that early '70's sort of way. I have long arms so the driving style suits me fine. Right now, mine has some SPICA issues that I need to solve. It also has a few electrical issues, probably bad grounds.

Does yours have original brakes or have you upgraded to early BMW 735 or Wilwood calipers? Mine are stock but I have the rebuilt BMW calipers sitting in a box waiting to be installed. Supposedly improves braking considerably.

I'm so jealous of the condition of your tri-fold cover under the rear hatch. Nobody cut holes for speakers in yours! Plus, unlike the one in my car, it doesn't look like it's falling apart with age.

You should contact Hannelore in Germany and order yourself a set of reproduction rear luggage straps that her husband Dirk makes. I have a set and they're top notch. There's a thread over on AlfaBB about the straps.

Hi Malex, thanks ! Nope, I purchased it in Italy... Brakes are original. Not that powerful, but that's enough for what I do with the car... :) I intend to keep it untouched. These cars are fragile indeed, esp. Spica and water pump, but apart from this, it is a reliable car in my opinion.

I was told there is a guy in switzerland (Burgi I think) who is a Spica specialist... Maybe you can try him? Not a job for every mecanics!

Wes Ingram is THE guy in the US. I have to run a few tests on my SPICA pump to determine whether it needs a rebuild. I'm hoping that it doesn't, but suspecting that it does. I believe that Wes gets $2k for the rebuild. I've heard that there's only Wes, a guy in Switzerland and another guy in Germany still doing the SPICA rebuilds.

I plan to keep my car mostly OEM, but will make a few minor/reversible changes to improve driveability. The brakes being one, and I'll likely upgrade the points to Pertronix electronic ignition. I also plan to upgrade the fuel pumps to the setup that Giorgio Penatti sells. Mine make a hell of a racket, which means that they're on their way out, and Giorgio sells a very nice and more reliable setup. I might also go with an Ansa exhaust as it looks nicer than OEM, though my current exhaust is in serviceable shape.
