If any of you blokes ever need these images in a larger variant for research purposes or just garage porn, drop me a PM and I can email them to you. A lot of research went into getting this as right as I could with the resources available, so feel to avail yourselves of the images if they will help you out any time.

Glad to see someone likes the old Mustangs AND more modern TRs enough to collect them - I thought I was the only one. That '69 Mach 1 is sweet. How big is the engine? I had an uncle that had a '70 Mach 1 with a 351C, my brother has had a '69 coupe (302, blah) and a '69 Mach 1 with a 351W. I had a '68 coupe with a 351C - that thing was a monster! Now I have my '87 TR.

Oh sorry, I didn't notice the S-code designation before. 390s are nice.

Hi Sam, both front and rear calipers on two of my cars (87 and 88) are black. The other 88 has aftermarket calipers which are grey. I can only presume that they were black from new as I have owned the car that I'm restoring from 12000 miles so I doubt that the one original owner in the UK would have chosen to paint the calipers as he was an elderly gent and mare attuned to cricket than mechanicals.

    Hi Joe,

The Mustang is a 69 Mach 1 with 390 and toploader manual gearbox. Gulfstream Aqua colour with white clarion knit interior. It's fully restored down to the last factory chalk mark on the gearbox and diff housing.

The blame for the collection falls squarely on my wife's shoulders. I bought the Pantera and then Suzie decided that 'decade' cars would be nice so she bought the Wagon to cover the 50's. Then somehow the container bringing the wagon to Oz mysteriously ended up with the T Bird as I'd had an inkling for an early convertible and couldn't afford a 59 Vette at the time.

Then looking to the 60's I really wanted a 69 Fiat Dino Coupe and have chased them for some years now. But then I looked to the collectibility of the first series of Mach 1 Mustangs, and in particularly the big block cars. I searched for three years to find this one, but it is a real beaut.

    Absolutely stunning!

I might be heavily biased since I was born in 1969 but for me, that year was a high point for muscle car styling.

My second car I owned was a burgundy '69 Stingray albeit only with a mild chev 350 and turbo 400. I loved that car.

Have you seen Kevin's 69 Mustang in Carl's workshop! Another beautiful example. In RHD too.

I hope your Testarossa makes it for the Vic FCA concours. Looking forward being blown away by it.

Rob. You and Suzie have a wonderful eclectic taste in cars.

Personally I like 1967 in the muscle car styling. You have the debut of the Camaro, the redone 1967 Mustang (and of course the 1967 Shelby GT-500, which is my favorite car of all-time) and the 1967 Corvette, which, to me, is the best looking of the 2nd generation and better than the Stingray of '68+

69 was a great year as well, don't get me wrong, but to me 67 was the best.

Inquired about purchasing Kevin's car but like everything he owns, he wouldn't part with it. In the end I got a better car as his is a 351 auto.

You know, technically, I know your right……and even though 67 Corvettes and 67 Mustangs are technically more aesthetically pleasing designs, I show how prefer the flawed OTT styling of the 1969 Shelby or Vette. No logic, just heart. Just like I prefer the flying mirror TR over the regular mirrors on the post 87 cars.
I even think the interiors of the 67 cars are so much better then 69 interiors. And that counts for a whole lot when your behind the wheel.

Yes, I agree. His 69 is fantastic looking and I find the RHD aspect very appealing but that Gulfstream aqua colour of your 390 is, to quote a word PP often uses, sensational. Even Carl would go weak in the knees seeing your 390.

Anyway, lets go back to the subject matter of the thread.

So yes, back to the thread.

Started on the front of the car today. I had previously removed the upper ad lower control arms and spring / shocker and rebuilt and restored them whilst doing the rears. They sit here patiently in a box all ready to refit. Shims, wishbone brackets etc have all been CAD coated ready to refit.

Tonight I removed the hubs themselves after acquiring the correct tool to pop the ball joints out without damage to the rubbers.

Here's about when things got nasty.................

Over the years, road grime gets to the plate at the rear of the hub unit and really makes a mess. Then there are covers that sit inside the rear of the rotor and protect the wheel bearings. These should be nicely gold CAD coated but this coating is nowhere near good enough to provide protection and longevity to any of these components. They all look like hell. Even on a well maintained car, age takes it's toll on these parts.

Don't tumble out off your chair !

Do you know how much will cost a rear hub bearing of a 512TR ? Have a look .... :(
