The rule changes in 2006 weren't remotely as dramatic as this year.

According to Toto Wolff we're not getting the full sound of these V6s yet. Only running ar 9-10,000rpm. Need to wait at full pelt with turbo.

    Great news :)

Strange that RB are still working on their car. They lost a lot of time today.

These drivetrains are just massively complicated, lots of teething issues is what we'll see for months I'm sure.

For some reason it reminds me the old Ferrari 312 T4.

There is absolutely no point sand-bagging for this test. Every team needs to know exactly where they are, now. Things should get interesting during the second and final tests.

Certainly...but I doubt anyone is going full bore. They are more interested in max laps per session and reliability (I don't think Merc losing a nose is a big concern...keeping the engine together is very important). Ferrari is probably far more happier with completing the most laps than having the quickest time at this point.

With the cars 9 secs slower around Jerez than last year, I'm certain the times will improve.

Oh I completely agree. Ferrari must be elated to have completed so many laps, and I know Mercedes are elated to have been the first team out on track by a factor of multiple hours before anyone else.

I think they're lapping some 7 seconds off pole time last year aren't they

They just didn't pull it off as well as Merc. That dramatic drop angle at the front is the primary difference.

IIRC around 4 seconds in the early parts of the season.

Wolff has already said they're only running at around 10K rpm so far, so we haven't heard the full noise yet .

Merc's diffuser has an interesting interpretation on the starter hole.

Christian Horner was very annoyed today about missing testing, nothing specific other than that it was something 'silly'. Really odd that a 'silly' thing can take all day considering Mclaren's issue was anything but silly and it took all day

Amusingly the GP2 day 1 test last year had the cars in the 1.25's

Luckily completely irrelevant as they'll be trying as fast as it can go from the get go (all of them use the same parts etc) instead of what they're doing now, seeing if the whole thing is bolted together properly.

IMO we'd be very lucky to see an car being run at proper speed by the end of thursday (friday is wet running).
