Why do so many exotics end up at dealerships?

    While Luke and I disagree on price, I will say that low mile pristine GTS models are always above $60k, often near or exceeding $70k. If you show me one for $50k, I'll buy another and have 2 :D

    I would not even think of selling my low mileage 99 f355 GTS for $70k.

    I have a 1998 355 F1 GTS I purchased new. All maintenance has always been current, and is a low mileage car. I wouldn't think of selling her it for under $90k. The prices for the best cars are beginning to rise.

    Exotics end up at dealerships for the ease of transition into a different vehicle, and in Nevada the sales tax incentive to trade in is heavy. You may get less for your trade, but you make that up in sales tax you won't have to pay.

    A lot of exotic owners don't want too go through the hassle of a private sale as well.

    And lastly, never forget the auction cars that show up all the time. Most are good from far, but far from good.

    I agree totally I have sold non exotics privately and they can be a pain in the $ss so an exotic to that kind of person would more than likely end with me telling them to frac off, or adding 20 grand to the asking price with the comment that no more questions will be answered until I get a 50,000 deposit. Maybe one of us should start a reality tv show they have them for all the other BS topics. Let's call it "Flip this exotic" that way I can act like simon used to in American idol and tell people who don't have a clue that they can't afford the car and the rest of us owners on the panel can say they don't deserve it. Ha ha sorry for the rant boys.

    When you guys start talking about GTB in the $90k region I think you rare being very optimistic. I keep an eye on the market and as of today I know of 11 GTB/GTs cars for sale with asking between $80k and $55k. Most have between 15 to 25k miles. The $80 car has only 8.4k miles. Most of these cars have been fort sale for 6 or more months. The exception is the $80k 8.4k miles which is a more recent listing at Ron Tonkin. I'm sure that to the right buyer, probably a collector, not a driver, an exceptional car may pull $70 to $80 but who knows. Even if one of these cars moves we won't necessarily know the sale price. Hell, I has a 1999 F1 spider with 6k miles with full records,1 owner, as new condition but needed a major, unique Rossa Fiorano/Tan, originally listed for $84k ultimately offered to be at $55 before I walked because I warned a car I could drive imediately. It was offered to me at $55 as a courtesy because the dealer decided that since we could not come to agreement after the PPI I regined on the negotiated price of $58 (I had deposit on the car) and the dealer was going to whole sale it for $55k.

    As far as I know nothing significant in particular. This is one of the cars I have been watching since last summer. Only draw back is that it may not be emissions legal is some states. But for a state with no emissions testing I would think its would be a good deal. No?
    But its sits, unsold....

    I loved the repainted one in washington state last year that had 29K miles....grigio/black GTS that sold for 32K.

    Passes the sniff test. Nothing looks wrong in the pictures. The implied engine upgrades that make it potentially not emissions legal is a turn off for many. Many see an aftermarket amp mounted in the front trunk and cringe. Who knows what was done with the electrical there.

    If I was in the market for a GTB I would look closer and contact the seller for details.

    One other thing about that car. I believe there was a considerable price drop a couple of months ago, but i could be thinking of a different car. Black Horse has a few 355s for sale. Haven't seen any but one move all summer.

    You are clearly delusional so we will give you a pass on this rhetorical question.

    Anyone challenging FBB's creds for posting in this section needs a lobotomy. Unless you have more time spent under a 348, 355, 328, Mondial, Corvette or NSX than him, take a step back. Unless you have done a 550 major and not one but 2 sets of gold connector kits, reconsider your comments. If you have posted more high speed racing laps in a 348 or 355 or a Z06 Corvette and then taken a thrilling high speed ride off track that totalled your car and bruised your body (thanks to a wayward Porsche), think before making a comment like this. If you are not a Stooge and have never come to the aid of any suffering 348 or 355 owner in the neighborhood, then just hold your tongue and show some tolerance/respect. Because despite his comments, that is FBB.

    It's been listed for ages and they did cut about $10k off the price recently. Someone here posted a video of the previous owner doing donuts and everyone insisted it was therefore trashed, but with a fresh rebuild this sounds like one of those cars everyone should want.

    FBB, Ernie, and Pap are huge assets to this forum and I certainly appreciate any pearls of wisdom they can throw at us swine. Their experience and knowledge make owning a Ferrari an affordable reality for me. Without them and Ferrari chat, I'd be tooling around in a Pontiac Aztec.

    Thanks for the support gents! I do agree with Yelcab. There are many now to thank for taking the initial fixes of the earlier pioneers and really elevating solutions to modern OEM standards. Collaboration among the 348 brotherhood has removed all doubt that the 348 is now a reliable bullet-proof chassis who's finer examples bring prices around 60%-70% of the best 355's. Even the 550, billed as the most reliable Ferrari second to the 328, is benefiting from OEM quality modifications from a group of owners and higher profile, Maranello skunkworks. The 355 needs that kind of network.
