i must be a bad owner , i just don't care that much. i look at it this way , it's insured , if it gets wrecked , i'll buy another . dust and dirt , that wipes off.
I agree it can be off slightly but given the proper paint code, Nero should be extremely close and as John said, they will have my bumper and I could always do as he suggested and provide my gas door.
Each of us are our own type, I don't judge what others do with their cars, I'm only concerned with mine. To find another like it would be a challenge, one I'm not up for if I can prevent it.
I don't know who is doing you color matching but I've never had a problem. I don't go by color code. I take a sample, like the headlight cover, to my AB shop and let them match it. That was for the single stage paint on my 85 QV (with original paint). Base/clear is less susceptible to fade because the clear block UV, but if necessary it's still easy to match these days. Plus there is no reason the blend has to be over a large area. That's why I said air brush it. Over all, not worth arguing about.
oh , i understand that, cars are how i make a living , i guess some part of me is just over cars , but some part of me still digs em , or else i wouldn't be driving a ferrari .
When blending damage the blend is usually small very small. It's the clear coat the clear coat is done over the entire panel the damage was done on. And depending on where the blend is at adjacent panels will also get a fresh clear coat. She talking about paint matching the same color code can have different mixed over a production run panel painting is a no no. But if it's not a metallic or pearl it's easier to match.
red is easier . try to get a metallic to match. blending is essential. a simple variance in air pressure can affect the shade. a metallic needs a pretty sizable area to blend. air brush in a small spot with metallic and it will stand out like a sore thumb. with single stage ferrari red tho , its pretty easy to spot it in and buff off the edge and make the repair invisible
Well, after all, you're driving a 348 so I would not expect you to feel the same For the sensitive, that was a joke.
hell when you're talking silver , sometimes even that additional layer of clear on the adjacent panels can change the shade. i hate silver!
honestly , I've driven my friends 355 , and it doesn't do it for me. i can't justify the difference for all the additional problems and cost that the 355 bring's to the table. and that isn't a joke. but that's why they make chocolate and vanilla ice cream! lol
Again, if you are happy, that's all that matters. But, the "additional problems" you reference are a wives tale. And, it's a fairly accepted fact that the 355 was a Ferrari savor over the failed 348. Flame suit on and no disrespect to the 348 guys..
.. and thats why in the movie " seeking a friend for the end" there is a broken down red 348 on the side of the road. Right after they steal the yellow truck scene. Lol!
at least ferrari never disgraced the 348 with a ridiculous transmission with a center console unit that looks like it is assembled with parts from a local hardware store. Ever see 348 guys whining about headers , valve guides , engine rebuilds, spider tops not working, ride control units not working. No thanks , i'll keep my 348. Wives tales , i don't think so. If ferrari didn't call the f1 an f1, and that badge said something like "auto clutch" like it is , that car would be the laughing stock of the car world. I remember when i was looking and mentioned an f1 as a candidate to my ferrari owner friends, ( real hardcore guys , an f40 owner , tr owner , 355 and 360 owner ) they laughed their asses off . oh , but , no offense just joking ( tongue in cheek )
I really have to take exception to what you are saying. Nobody is saying you don't have to blend. The question is over what area. You don't need to blend a 1/4" dia chip over a square foot area. Thgat's why you use an air bruch and not a touchup gun. It is not uncommon for any car shipped from Europe or Asia to get a ding or scratch. They all go through correction at the companies facilities at the ports. Also, take my 96 BMW for example. It metallic Boston Green. If you know the color, you know that not only is it metallic but also has blue highlights that change with light conditions and viewing angle. I had BMW repaint the front end due to excessive chipping after the first winter (at their cost). BMW subbed it out to a shop and I asked the shop to owner extra paint and I would pay for it. Fast forward 17 years. The car was developing a little rust at the front of the rear wheel wells. I preped and primed those spots, sprayed with the 17 year old base coat, and spot cleared. Also, watch this video from Glasurit about spot repair. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a39UcQyS-cc]Glasurit Small Damage Repair System (SDRS) - YouTube[/ame]
Did you use color blender on your bmw? If so which blending technique, wet blend? Please , i don't need lectures on paintwork, along with being the owner of our business, i'm also the painter. Btw , i'd never paint a panel for a quarter inch scratch
As I said before, it's not worth arguing about. The only reason for my response with video was that you stated that the way to fix the small nicks in Dr Bobs bumper is to prep and then blend all the way around the corner and then clear the entire bumper. That is totally unnecessary and the video from Glasurit substanbtiates that. You may not need to see it, but it informs other. (Remember this is not a 2-way conversation but a public forum.) Of course, you then say just touch it up and it will be unnoticable????? And if the choice was made to blend it around the corner and clear the full bumper why would you not just go for the full repaint? Easier than blending the color.
By keeping the area of new basecoat to a minimum you reduce the chances of other panel to panel mismatch to a minimum
Paint rarely matches perfect, what your eyes see is the result of a prfessioal tricking you eyes into seeing a perfect match thru professional blending techniques
Tough crowd!! FYI the ladder is on the back patio and it isn't going back into the garage until I move the car. Promise... And..it's all the builders fault because I needed to get on the roof in a damn snow storm and try to rectify some roof leaks that were messing my house up. I'll add this to his bill.
