I powder coat the trumpets, the beige caps are lightly media blasted at low pressure. I have not found a source for the red tubing, but was thinking of dyeing a batch. I made some fake green cavis with dye.

    Try this
    Beer Line Hose, Red Vinyl

In the 70's red vinyl tubing was common. We had it on the shelf in the basement and I saw it used in the static systems on sailplanes at the time.

I suspect they used it because they got a good price on it and it matched the trumpets.

I punched in red vinyl tubing on Google images and saw a lot of potential sources. Beer equipment suppliers, aquarium supplies, etc. Not sure of the sizing options but worth a look.

After years of buying Harbor freight rivet guns which sometimes will get me through one car and then throw them away, I splurged and bout a $1,000 battery powered Rivet Gun. It's awesome and I should of done this a long time ago.

A lot of parts for one subassembly. They key was stuck and would not turn, the locksmith was able to get the key out but could not fix it. I got a used key cylinder and attached parts from Bill at GT Parts. Every project presents new challenges!

One of my 246 GT's (chassis 6514) will be painted back to its original colour Argento Auteil Metallizzato 106-E-1 with Nero 161 in a few weeks. The metalwork stage is almost complete. What interior colour are you having yours trimmed in?

I will have to ask. The spray out sample matched the original paint found on the car really well. I'll ask & let you know.

I've opted to use the car's original vinyl Daytona style interior as it is all in perfect undamaged condition but with new black carpets.

Can't wait to see it after paint! And I like how the US side markers are being left in place.

Somebody needs to make a hotrod type car that is an exact scaled up replica of that plastic model ... that would be one cool cruiser :)

The idea of a 3D paint sample is brilliant.

I agree. The speed shapes are excellent for getting a more accurate idea how a colour will look on a car and how light will reflect off it on all of the surfaces compared to the normal flat spray out cards. I've had a few of these shapes painted when considering a colour for my GTS - Oro Chiaro, Blu Dino Met, Nocciola and Rosso Rubino Met. I'd highly recommend doing this step to anyone contemplating a colour change on their car. Once I'd narrowed it down to a choice of two we used a spare Jaguar XF bumper to get a really good idea of the colours.

Jon, this is an incredible thread - you're like a wizard.

I have a very strange and useless question: in the first few pictures in your original post, the car on the trailer is wearing a blue California license plate. In the picture it's illegible; do you still have the plate, or have a picture that shows the plate clearly? I ask because it's an older plate, and knowing the plate will aid in identifying period photos of the car later on.

    Exceptional work, thanks for sharing.

Single post front bumpers with US marker lights and US instruments. Remarkable Dino variations!
