    Good night.

I am rebuilding my koni's shortly. I already have ordered vw851&853 seals, but I am wondering about the oil I should use. Could someone who has gone inside this field give some indications about the oil type to use?

    Thanks.

I was also interested in the responses to this. Two years ago I refilled my koni's. One of the best things I have done to my car.
Just under 5wt shock fluid seemed to be the koni viscosity. I went for a thicker mix to help support the front standard springs on turn in. The final mix was Motul 5 synthase 160ml + ATF 50ml front. Motul 5 210ml + ATF 70ml rear. Both 1 1/4 off full hard adjustment.
Has any one else bothered to do this ?

    Cheers.
Smooth ride with much sharper turn in at low and high speed.

Great thread - this winter is valve clearances, ignition and carbs, but I was planning on attacking the suspension come autumn.

Do you have a link for the seals?

Motul 5W Light fork oil is as you suggest a motorbike fork oil.
ATF is a 10W that I just happened to have on hand to make about a 6wt for the front and a little less for the back to allow more rearward weight transfer (squat) out of corners.
Others may chime in with suggestions, but just this one change stopped the car falling over its self in corners and becoming unsettled in bumps and turns.
A bit like new shocks I suppose.

Anyone ever determine the o ring size?
I am sure Hercules (who carries the WV packing seals) has one to fit, and I am trying to assemble the parts before I diss-assemble the shocks...

I wanted to do mine but it seems both Herculescn and MSO don’t ship overseas ! . Would one of you Fchaters be willing to purchase the seals and send them to me, it’s only about $40 and I’ll send cash up front, plus tip ?

Looks like I will have to wait to get O rings until I can remove them and measure, if you want to wait until then, Stephen, I can certainly include your sets in my order and post them to you.
Speaking of posting, I will post the O ring speck when I determine it (or of anyone figures it out before me please beat me to it!)
