Did a search in the forum, but haven't got an exact answer, so I thought I should ask. How many oil you guys think should a 355 burn? I have the repair manual and there it says, that an oil consumption up to a liter for 1000 kilometers is fine. And at the same time I see that some people here are saying, that their 355s don't burn any oil at all...
IT also depends on how much you drive the car at or near the redline. That is where you are going to be vaporizing the most oil.
Over 60K total miles and 5K race track miles, my F355 does not consume a <measurable> drop on a 3K mile OCI. It might consume a cup of oil in a race track weekend.
3k miles on my car last summer, not any noticeable change on the stick. I check mine at idle and I regularly drive very hard.
Don't listen to these guys. They are either the exceptions, or dreaming. Go with the owners manual " normal". They all use oil.
So you produced an extra quart of oil after driving 4000 miles. This is the missing Grand Unified Theory of Relativity that Einstein was looking for. Congrats.
No, the Owners' Manual tells you how ridiculously high the oil consumption can be before F will agree that it's a problem that they need to fix under warranty The "one quart in 600 miles" spec was born when the 80's 2Vi models had an oil consumption problem when new. I'd call using up 1 quart in 1000 miles "high", but needing 1 quart every few K miles nothing to worry about (and many cars go father than that before needing a quart). JMO.
My 355 used to burn oil before having the cylinder heads rebuilt. It would need a quart nearly every 1000 miles. Since having the heads rebuilt it burns no oil at all!
