These guys seem really good, www.the458specialists.com , a company called BAMD ltd, currently looking to purchase an aero kit and suspension upgrade from them as well.
Most challenge cars, if serviced and with engines and ECUs that are stock are very reliable. I've tracked and raced 360 and 430s since 2006 (both stock engines and ECU) and never had a single weekend with a mechanical issue that prevented a weekend of fun. The issues we are seeing with unreliable cars are usually issues with modified cars. (For this reason the CCR historic Challenge is requiring cars running for points to be without engine mods.) If you invest in a 360 or 430 that is stock, and properly serviced it should be every bit as reliable as a cup car, if not more so.
Does anyone know what the required "aero" change kit is for the update of 458 Challenge cars to run in the 2014 series. I was told it was a 40k cost
The requirement is that you purchase the Ferrari aero kit, which I was told is about 30k. Ferrari's kit is the only package homologated for the Challenge, for obvious (financial) reasons.
North America price is $39,995 plus approximately $3k install. Right now you need to be a registered entrant to get the kit while supplies are short. FNA is currently requiring official body shops to do the actual install.
For $40k, what do you get besides a splitter and wing? I mean the price is insanse if that is all you get...
I have not seen parts list yet but generally it's the wing, wing supports, rear bumper cover and at least a few parts underneath. Requires welding. On front it's an entirely. new nose plus a set of parts underneath to support and deal with ducting. Apparently a driver of the price difference is the import taxes and duty but it's a lot more expensive than we originally thought.
Well it's 30k in Europe so not a lot more expensive in the US. But you can get all the things you're mentioning for about a quarter of the price including fitting. That price is from respected companies that have years of experience with Challenge cars.
No doubt. The kit was engineered by Michelotto, unsure who is building. Like many spec series, you have to buy the parts...same issue in Tudor for GTD cars
Vs which cup car? I had an 06 997 cup for a track toy for a while. I absolutely loved it. The cup cars (at least the 997's) were supposed to have a refresh at 40 hours. What's not obvious is that almost no one actually did this. We'd start doing leakdowns at 40 hours and do a refresh when there was an issue. Usually between 70 and 100 hours. It was a super reliable car. The 997 cup cars are also seriously fast. I'd love to know what the running cost of a f430 challenge or 458 challenge is.
