150 N Riverside ready to start construction next year............ 150 North Riverside - Give Your Company The Edge William Blair moving headquarters to new West Loop tower William Blair & Co. signed a letter of intent to anchor a proposed 53-story office tower along the Chicago River, the second big ground-up office project to get under way since the recession. The investment firm is working to finalize a deal to move its headquarters to more than 300,000 square feet in the 1.2 million-square-foot tower at 150 N. Riverside Plaza planned by Chicago developer John O'Donnell, William Blair President and CEO John Ettelson confirmed today. Employees were informed this morning of the move planned for 2017. Mr. O'Donnell plans to break ground next summer on the building, which will be just south of a 45-story high-rise being developed by Houston-based Interests L.P. William Blair expects to sign a 15-year lease for its space within the next two months, a move that could make it easier for Mr. O'Donnell to attract other tenants to the project. I don't think there's anybody who doubted John O'Donnell. But once somebody like William Blair commits, it gets much more real to other tenants. With William Blair going there, they'll see that building as a true contender. Mr. O'Donnell, a former executive at Chicago office developer John Buck Co., said his venture is close to finalizing construction financing and investment partners, with construction set to begin by July 1 regardless of whether additional tenants commit by then.

Somebody posted the Chicago Spire court document over at skyscraperpage. Spire Document I have to give alot of credit to the Irish developer. He really wants to get this one built. Not sure if it will be the same exact design if built, but the old design was supposed to be 2000ft. I am glad Related did not get this property, although I am happy they are finishing 111 West Wacker. By the way, Milwaukee already has a very nice Calatrava designed building... Milwaukee also has a growing skyline just up the lake..................

The company already owns and manages more than 70,000 multifamily apartments in the U.S." __________________
Would be awesome! On a related note: I read an article in WIRED magazine about some giant abandoned projects, which then finally were picked up again. They mentioned the high rise on Wacker, that concrete ruin, which stood vacated for the longest time. But now somebody else bought the leftover and reuses the skeleton to build a different project with it. Kewl.

More on the Chicago Spire and DuSable Park......... DuSable Park to Get Calatrava-Designed Redo Under Revived Spire Plan - Streeterville - DNAinfo.com Chicago "DuSable Park to Get Calatrava-Designed Redo Under Revived Spire Plan By Lizzie Schiffman on March 17, 2014 If the Chicago Spire project moves forward, the developers have committed to investing $9 million in renovating DuSable Park. DuSable Park Renovations STREETERVILLE If attempts to resurrect the 150-story Chicago Spire project on Lake Shore Drive story are successful, DuSable Park is all but guaranteed a $9 million facelift. A big-budget overhaul of the currently undeveloped park separated from the Spire site at 400 N. Lake Shore Drive was in the initial plans before the project was abandoned in 2007. At that time, a new park had already been designed by architect Santiago Calatrava, who also designed the Spire. ... "The rubric we intend to pursue is the same plan and planning approval that we had back in 2007, 2008," Murphy said. "Under that outline of the plan for the building, we would be using DuSable park as a staging area for constructing the building ... [then] contributing to the development of the park so when the building is complete, the park will be complete." ... He noted the 3-acre spot which sits between the Ogden Slip and the Chicago River and just north of DuSable Harbor Boathouse is difficult to develop. .. "The community is very excited that the Spire is still planning to move forward. We've supported the project in the past, and we continue to support it. We want something very iconic to go in that location, [the Spire] is exactly what we hoped for that great parcel of property on the lakefront." ... Restoring the park after the building was finished was part of that deal, but the park was left barren when the plan was abandoned."
