Anyone changed the seal in the cam phaser housing? I removed it and the seal is backwards to how you think it should be so you have to drive it in from the back of the seal not like you usually do setting it in on the face. Any tips to setting it 348 experts? And the cut outs on the 4 cam seal housings do they line up with the drain holes in the head? I did not notice where the were indexed when I removed them,

    Thank you guys

Phase sensor seal: Orientation of a seal is always the same, regardless of which way you press it in. To retain the liquid.
Cam seal housing groove lines up with drain hole. Often there's a little mark 180 deg from it on the outside of the housing to help line it up.

Bruce thank you, I though the cam caps lined up with the return holes. But that phase sensor when installed the seal is backwards I mean the flat side is facing into the head and the side with the spring is on the dry side. I'll post some pics tomorrow to show you.

Ok so you guys are right, the wet side is facing into the head. But I have never had to drive a seal from the wet side, I was having a problem finding something the exact size diameter as the rear of the seal to drive it in, you know you can't install it from the dry side that's where it stop is.

I used a 48mm socket in the back of the seal. That is wide enough to clear the spring and the inner lip. Then set the housing face down on a 50mm socket so that the bolts didn't get damaged, and so there was even support all around the radius. I got the big socket set from Harbor Freight years ago.

I don't think I own a effing socket that big. What were you doing with a 2 inch socket?

Good idea I was worried putting pressure on the back side of it might damage it,
