LOL, why? That would be awesome. In a fantasy world, I would be allowed to just open every Ferrari I ever saw whenever I wanted, documenting every detail, dates of production, assembly numbers, odometers, interior options, condition, patina, etc. I'm always excited when I see a Ferrari at a show and it's a convertible with the top down, or it's a Berlinetta and the window is rolled down.
It's just cool to see the detail in your coverage of the car. Given that I'm only the 2nd owner, I kind of see myself as a custodian to the great care the original owner bestowed upon the car. I realize many may laugh at that notion. It does not mean that I don't enjoy the car . . . I certainly drive her with passion . . . I just share your appreciation for the vast majority of F cars think that it's great to capture them, their VINs, as a time and place record of the chassis history.
Thank you. I appreciate that you recognize the effort that goes into documenting these cars. Recently, I have decided to work less (a lot less), and focus more on documenting Ferraris. In the past year or so, I have been inundated with information, and I literally spend almost every waking moment playing catchup.
Finally found a pic of 34641. My last uniformed service Boss and his Italian Wife. She was picked-up and driven to his retirement ceremony as a Brigider General in her first ever Ferrari ride. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Thanx Guys. She said when she saw it "I thought all Ferraris were RED." Read SOMEWHERE and sadly do not remember where, only 14 ever left the factory in that color.
There is a Dino at the Marconi Museum that is described as possessing a rare "root beer" color. Is that the same as your 308?
Well if that is true, we have to only find 12 more. Me sitting in a 81 back in June 1983. Faded picture, same color. I have the VIN in a book in my safe. If you guys really want it, let me know and I'll go get it. Image Unavailable, Please Login
For you guys that havent seen this, here are more of that and a few other 2Vi's I took back in the day http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/308-328/322953-vintage-pictures-i-took-308s-1981-1997-a.html
'81 GTSi Build January #35691 red/black I am the 4th owner. Originally delivered upstate NY, then to the Philly area, then Trenton NJ, and now resting quietly on jack stands getting a belt/WP change on Long Island.
It actually could be. The problem is metamerism, among other things. Marronie is just about my favorite color on these cars.
Of course! A period picture of a rare-colored car, and you have the VIN?!? It's like it's my birthday!
Looks like mine was right in front of yours in the line. Does that mean we are brothers, or cousins or something? Red/Tan March 1981 36357 Klatu
The original owner was a surgeon in Huntsville Alabama. He bought it new from FAF to replace a Maserati Merak. This 81 308 was his daily driver for years and years because whenever I visited my Uncle up there I would always go and see if it was there and it usually was. About 2006 or 2007 I heard it was up for sale and for obvious sentimental reasons I desperately wanted it. I was too late, but I did track down the cell phone of the guy that bought it and I called him. When he answered he was in Atlantic City. I told him the story and asked if he wanted to keep it. Then I was hit with the bad news, he had totally changed the car - including painting it red and installing the biggest fattest "sports" seats available that would fit in it. They even put one of those big ass touch screen radios Just all kinds of stuff. It went from a car that was still bone stock one owner to one that no one here would even want, including me. Broke my heart. That was the very first Ferrari I ever rode in.
Man, what a shame! Some people just don't get it. Hopefully all that was removed was boxed and put away for some to return it to its former glory someday.
