Coming from a MKIV Supra Turbo 6 spd I can understand how lag can get annoying. However, with new developments and advancements in the turbo world coupled with Ferrari's engineering, I highly doubt lag will exist. I feel like Ferrari will use small turbos and piping to provide the best response. It'll never be as quick as an NA engine but it will definitely have some low end character, mid range, and definitely top end force.

I have a 12' benz S550 with a 4.6L V8 twin turbo, 429hp 516lbs ft of torque and I'm pretty certain there's no lag that I can feel. I just floor it from idle and boom car launches. So if benz can accomplish this I have 100% confidance ferrari will have no problem.

I went from a Kleeman tuned AMG 2011 C63 (NA motor with about 600 hp) to a Renntech 2013 CLS63 (Turbo motor with about 700 hp). The C63 was more fun. More responsive and quicker revs. The CLS63 is a torque monster. It's like on off-shore racing power boat, but does not have the character of the NA motor.

Totally agree with u. Funny but accurate comparison to a power boat. I'm all for the NA motors but the next gen turbo engines are definitely miles ahead of what most people remember. But there's no doubt the NA engines offer the most responsive charactoristics. But we are talking about ferrari here so if someone in the auto world was to make this a success? I'd bet my money on the prancing horse.

I agree - a NA motor with less hp can be more fun than a turbo

Lee, Ive driven just about all of them. They all have some squishiness in the response from the throttle. Even the Mac. They have gotten much better though.

For me this is like faux leather. Some are really quite excellent. But you can always tell.

When you're taking about a daily driver like a Mercedes E class, the drive is really very good now. Even on the California, this makes sense. It will have the big torque forced induction brings and the car's role is to be more of a general use vehicle. However, when you're talking about a supercar like the 458 or Mac, I really do want that insane, "wired right into your synapses" sensation you get from the best NA setups.

For me this is a fact but you can just call it one man's opinion. And its cool if they want to go with turbos on the 458 successor- life moves on and things change. If some of us dont like what happens, thats OK, as we will have our 458s.

Yes. One of the reasons I pay as much as I have for F-cars is to be able to experience the instantaneous and linear response of their engines. If I just wanted torque, I can pay a lot less for any of a large number of excellent cars. If that experience is no longer available I will need to rethink things, but in the meantime we do have our 458s.

At each turn Ferrari either substantially upgrades or reinvents what each car is. I have no doubt Ferrari will deliver a wonderful product. The only question I have is whether or not it will be for me, but thats just one person. They have so many factors to consider. They do have the strongest brand, but its actually a really tough job. I guess that's why they get the big money.

All I'm saying is when you need a qualifier like "virtually" then its not the same as simply stating "no".
