Anyone else also not happy with the F1 Gear changes? I hate the slowness of the gear changes (SPORT Mode makes no difference), and the delay between them is also dissapointing, When your really moving maybe its a bit better but not much if im honest, its just the engine sound at higher speeds that makes it more exciting. Im opening this thread about this because to me its taking some fun out of driving my 360 because of this problem and I want to do something about it. Has anyone had any experience in re-mapping there F1 gear box? Am I the only one who is dissapointed by 360 F1 gear changes? Dont get me wrong, I love Ferraris to death and they are GOD in my eyes BUT this slow and delayed F1 gear changing is annoying me. Any feedback is greatful

P.S. Should of mentioned something else because its very important. The gear changes are much faster if you lift your foot of the Gas pedal before changing which makes me think its the way im driving but surely this is not how your supposed to drive the car is it? Put your foot down and then lift it off the gas pedal completely before changing to the next gear? Another annoying thing is the down changes are fast and perfect, its going up the gears that im not happy with. And again this makes you think, when you down change your foot is off the gas pedal so im driving the car incorrectly??

Very similar to my friend's 01 360 F1. He almost planned to sell the car due to the slow take off and gear change. Finally he spent $2k for the latest TCU p/n 211023. All the issues have been fixed and loves his car since.

Ah ok, so its not just me then, yeh to be honest it makes the car very dissapointing to drive, ferrari didnt get this right at all. Ok so a reflash or upgrade is all I need to do, no problem, ill get onto that straight away, thanks for the advice. Does that part number work for the later model cars aswell because mine is a 2004 model?

Yours already has it, so something is likely wrong.

If it's a 2003 or later I'd agree unless someone has downgraded it!

There is clearly something wrong with it or the set-up. Changes should be quicker if you keep your foot planted at 5k revs and after 7k revs in Sport mode they should be pretty instantaneous with a nice kick.
If you lift you are sending mixed messages to the TCU. It thinks you are slowing.
Contrary to popular belief there is a knack to driving F1 cars properly.

Have it looked at by a good tech with and SD.

ill check the part number tomorrow and open her up to see if the flash has been disturbed aswell. Hmm, hang on, shifts are only faster at 5k to 7k? So under these rev ranges the car will be slow to change and if so thats normal? No im not lifting, i tried lifting to see if problem still occurred which it doesnt, gear changes are much faster and smoother if you lift, its when you have your foot into it that its slow

Also, reverse gear is terrible, if you on a hill then good luck trying to move, is that just a characteristic of the F1 tranny?

Havent had the Modena for long but if comparing it to other F1 trannys i have driven then it seems like its ok, im just not happy with it. If you have ever driven the Alfa Romoe Selespeeds then its exactly like that, slow and annoying, and i eexpected more then that from the 360, maybe its just me, i am very picky

There is definitely something wrong with the PIS settings on your transmission. I have the CS TCU in mine and changes are quite quick -- though probably not as quick as a 430. If I put it in Sport mode and keep my foot planted and I change at around 5K the transmission is banged into gear and the clutch slammed home. Definitely not slow.

Try bringing the rpms up more between shifts.. be a bit more aggressive with the gas pedal..

Let's not forget what the manual states (for my 2004 360)

    Page 3-23
Gear shifting will be “faster” if requested with the accelerator pedal pressed all the way down and over 7,000 rpm (sport mode selected)

There is definately something wrong with the car.
There is no comparison with the selespeed even with the dna mode.
The gear changes in the 360 have to be quick and without any hesitation.
Are you sure that the car works 100% correctly?

Try this: upshift to third manually and at 50 miles, with third selected, floor it.
Does it have a small hesitation or it accelerates instantly?

Reverse gear is way too high on the 360, almost as high as 2nd gear, so lots of clutch slipping until she locks up (if you get that far) is pretty normal. The F430 has a higher numerical (lower speed) ratio reverse to help with the problem.

Trying to keep reverse gear small, I guess, or somebody wanted to go really fast in reverse.

I thought speed of F1 gear shift depends on position of gas pedal. faster shifts when pedal depressed more

It could be toast by now if it wasn't set up properly in the first place. I feel you need to get the car to someone who has the right equipment and knows how to use it. You definitely should not find that it shifts better or faster if you lift out of the accelerator as you shift.

Single clutch f-1 trannys are a love hate thing...some people have suggested something might be wrong, while that may be true, it's also possible that you might not enjoy this type of tranny. I had one in my M5 and it was def. better than the 360 IMHO....but I'd still prefer a 3 pedal car or a dual clutch. Just personal preference.

    I agree with Mike.

Put it on Sport mode, push gas pedal hard and switch gears at 5K on up / try switching gears almost always at redline and gear shifts should be instantaneous.

If not, then yes, something is wrong and definitely take your car to a certified mechanic.

And yes, do not lift up on the gas pedal during gearshifts as the TCU will be confused thinking you are wanting to slow down.

Lol, i have to laugh, sure the car is made to go fast but around town the cops dont like it or you. Maybe the F1 transmission just sux for driving at say 50mph, it sounds from what you are all saying that this maybe true, its not until you get to the open roads with no traffic that this thing can then change fast, under that its suppose to be slow changes right? I dont think there is anything wrong with the clutch or car as such but im still not happy with the change pattern and want it to be better

Your 2004 model should have came with the latest TCU. Yes definitely the slow change in early cars are not clutch related. My friend spent $5000 to put a new clutch in and no improvement. Early TCU does not allow to change the PIS at all.

ok so here it all is. So this car already has the CS TCU installed right or is this not the CS TCU (im confused)? So theres nothing to upgrade because its the latest and best TCU there is? Ok so theres still no way of telling if the software itself has been played with though. Looking at the FLASH it hasnt physically been removed but thats not to say it hasnt been upgraded or downgraded via OBD. So now I need someone extremely extremely clever who knows the software inside out. Can anyone who knows the software really well please let me know if theres anything wrong with it? (the software is attached). I have no problem reflashing it as thats my job so playing inside ECU's doesnt scare me the slightest bit so feel free to make any changes and ill happily try them. I will pull this car to a million pieces if i have to until I have it running the way I want it to, Im sorry Ferrari , I love you but I just am not happy with the gear changes, especially around town driving, its just losing its excitement and really gets me down :( Any Ferrari Techs on here, feel free to PM me with any options :D

As noted above pretty much the first check is PIS which requires the dealer's computer - pulling it apart won't help at this stage - you have an effective up-to-date chip

Looks like you have the latest TCU already. Worth to check the PIS setting and clutch wear %.

no faults found, had it checked this morning by dealer. If you want the job done properly do it yourself so the elimination process begins. If its me and not the car then atleast I would have learnt alot about how the car works which to me is important to know also

Before doing anything, drive another one in the same route you evaluated yours.
