From when we move the F355 Challenge into position for a 2 post lift, and when the engine is sitting on the crate. 10AM to 5PM with 1 hour break for lunch.

Hi Mitch,

If you still have the car on the lift, can you please take some good photos of the lift points? I know we have a few threads but the photo is the stock 355 photo with dots. I'd like to see exactly where you are lifting.

Bruce, no did not get a shop. I did it in the car's owner's shop. He is a local car nut with 2000 square feet warehouse and ... 4 lifts all occupied with cars in various stages of undress, and with cars under those on the lifts.

I am just driving a stake into the ground as a point of reference for how long it takes to drop the engine for a major job. Compared to dropping the gas tank, it really does not take much longer and you get a much more thorough job.

 

He is actually a decent wrench. He just has not done a F355 engine out major and did not want to launch into it by himself.

 

Cool. And, I was just joking. Like the saying $100.00 for the job, $200.00 if you watch, $300.00 if you help.

And I agree with you in full regarding dropping the motor. Never in a million years would I jerk around with the gas tank. I can't understand why people wish to fight an up hill battle. The car was designed with a sub-frame for a reason...

 

Man from the thread title I couldn't tell what you were talking about - such as some biological function.

 

So, 2 guys, 6 hrs, 12 hrs total, 125/hr = $1500. Perhas, 1 guy, 8 hrs, = $1000.

 

By my self not rushing I can drop the engine in about 5-6 hours also, lift or jacks. This number seems to be the average.
Were as to drop an empty fuel tank, a little more than an hour. Most of that time is spent removing the two top fuel tank holding nuts in the engine bay, particularly the one behind the oil tank. One flat at a time

 

Or DIY because it's the most enjoyable of hobbies and time is not of the essence = $0

Instead, I'm stuck redoing the baseboards throughout the entire house. No fun at all but it is coming along nicely, although somewhat slow (first time for everything).

Been there, done that. Age has it's privileges. Nothing left to prove!

 

Last night I pulled off my steering column surround in hopes to find a problem with the key signal not getting to the immobilizer (long story).

Nothing to prove at all and the sick part is, I actually enjoyed laying under my dash, bearly being able to move, with my back sore today....

Now that's the sign of enjoying cars LOL

 

I have a lift and when my time is due for a major I am going to host an engine out service at the Jersey Shore. Food and beverages included. Love to get some of you left coast guys out here and show us how it's done!

 

If you can get hold of oxygen and acetylene tanks I'll bring my cutting torches, arc welder and 9# sledge. We can show 'em how it done on the east coast.
