You will need to get some sort of temporary tag like this with the yellow border (or maybe the red Zoll tag):
    German temporary license plate

Also, you may have to pay 19% VAT to customs when you arrive on the value of your car, but be able to get it back when you prove you have exported it.

I'm pretty sure he won't need a temporary plate. If you are registered as resident in that country for any period longer than 3 months, but less than 12 months, then the car must be registered with the authorities. Hence the temporary plates.

As a tourist you can drive a car registered in your home country (non EU) for something like 3 months. Your insurer will probably need to know the car is not in the US.

Hi I am new to Frankfurt and wonder if there are any regular 'Cars and Coffee' style events or casual car meets going on in the city? Main interest is vintage Ferrari but keen on everything. Cheers

Hopefully someone will chime in with some goings-on in the Frankfurt area.

I know in Stuttgart there are several meets organised during the year. Martin has posted pics from them in this thread.

Unfortunately there aren't any "Cars & Coffee" style events in Germany (I have never seen or heard of those here). That's so sad. I don't understand why can't anybody organize here a car event like that...
