US version only. Numbers matching. No need for super low miles. Prefer no aftermarket wheels.

My car is Swaters Blu/tan. The car at Cars.com appears to be the same. Swaters Blu/Curio was popular. But I personally don't like the curio. Your right though DrB, once you have a red Ferrari you realize you could of had any color. And you get a lot of, "I've never seen..." comments. Another interesting color for a 355 is Verde Silverstone. Vehicle Photo: 1996 Ferrari F355 Spider

I also most bought that car a couple of years ago. It was located in RI at the time and was for sale for $50k with 6k miles. Needed a major and was an OBD II car which I didn't want. The green has mica in it and has a nice blue tint as the sun hits it. I sat on my hand before I could make a decision and next thing I knew it was sold to Black Horse in FL who did a belt job and listed it for $74k. I don't know what they actually sold it for but it looks like the current owner tired of it in a year. Actually, I'm glad I waited for the Swaters Blue car because it was my first color choice.

The Cars.com car appears to have some of the sticky parts corrected with carbon fiber over lays gage clusters, door handles, center consul. Not to my taste. Can't tell about the switches. But if the car needs a major I would not go to $49k. My car (3 owners, all records, 19k miles) was $46k pre major and it was pretty much perfect with challenge grill, Tubi and carbon door sills (which I do like). Only issue was slight discoloration of the driver's seat, but no real wear.

Would really need to know more about the cars.com car. Car fax says it's a 5 owner car with 26k miles. If it needs a major there is no way I'd go more that $45k assuming all else is good.

I almost bought a TDF/cuoio but I really wanted Rosso Corsa and am not the least bit sorry with the choice. If I were getting a second fcar I would be looking for TDF though.

Price is what price is. If that car fills your wishes and it's legit being in it for 55 with fresh major sounds good to me.

Your are welcome. Like any purchase, price is what a seller and buyer agree to. I waited to find the car I wanted for the price I was willing to pay. Took a while and almost stopped looking. Being a long time Ferrari owner it wasn't as if I felt I needed to get the first car I likes but may have needed work, or that I even needed the car. I would have been just as happy not buying a 355. It was more of a bucket list item. :)

Oh. This gets more interesting. I did a search on the vin for this car. I actually looked at it 3 years ago a Domani Motors in Deerfield Beach, FL. At the time the car has about 22.8k miles and was offered at $49k. No records. The previous owner bought it at auction about a year earlier. It's actually the car them make me fall in love with Swaters Blu. I passed on it because when I asked about a PPI the salesperson told me I could take it around the block to the local garage and they would put it up on a lift for me. Here is a link to the Domani web page circa spring 2011, I think. The underside of the front bumper was scraped up a bit. I recall there might have been some water damage to the interior from a top leak but that might have been a different car. I never drove the car. http://www.domanimotorcars.com/web/vehicle_photos/671404

Here is a link tot he Barrett-Jackson auction where it was sold. It had under 22k miles at the time. http://www.barrett-jackson.com/application/onlinesubmission/lotdetails.aspx?ln=648.1&aid=284

I see it is now missing the right hand rain shield in the engine bay which it was not previously.

The car was also the subject of some discussion right here on FChatt back in 2010,
    http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/348-355/305724-anybody-know-car.html

Funny how these cars move around.

Some service must have been done since I saw it in FL as at that time the fuel distributor recall had not been performed and it apparently has been at this time.

I'm also wondering why the Ferrari shields are missing from the fenders????

Thank you for all of the info and tips, Johnk. I like the fact that Fchatters help and encourage each other, especially newbies like me. I have a call into the seller. I have two classic cars and a Ferrari is my next purchase. I am looking to keep and drive the car (probably to the horror of most Ferraristi). I am having a very difficult time between a 328 and a 355. The 328s have been rising in value and I have always wanted one (actually a 308 but the 328 is very close and has fewer issues). But then I saw the 355 in blue and fell in love. Hard. They are very close in price although each has its own set of issues. The 355s seem to have done most of their depreciation but will their value stay flat or rise in the next 5 years? What to do? It sounds silly because it is a dilemma many would like to have, but is a dilemma nonetheless.

I own a 308 GTB QV and a 355 spider. I personally like the 308 better as it is more of a raw Ferrari consistent with old school Ferrari. To me the 328 represents the first step into the modern error of Ferrari with plastic, body colored bumpers and the like. Both the 308 and the 328 are pretty bullet proof. I've owned the 308 QV since new in 85. Total maintenance on the 308 for the last 29 years has been less than what some spend on a single major for the 355. The 308 QV in particularly is not a needy car. The 355 is obviously much quicker but for me it's more of a "fun" car. Either way, the 308, 328 or F355, are great cars but be prepaired to spend a lot more on mantenance on a 355. You are correct, prices are rising on 328s and on 308s, particualrly GTBs since there are few of them. I'm not a 328 guy beause, while a good car, I see it as a stop gap car. The 308 was looking it's age and Ferrari really didn't have a new car in the works so they stretched the 308 run a little longer with the up graded 328. F355s are a dime a dozen and while asking prices seem higher this year than the last few, for the best examples, I don't see many of those higher priced cars moving. Most have been on the market going on a year.

One other thing I would mention about the blue/curio car on cars .com. As I mentioned I looked at this car in the spring of 2010 or 2011. Pretty sure now that it was 2010, not 2011 as I said before. That aside, I know it had shields but I also seem to remember that the shields were recessed into the fenders. I recall this because it was very unusual since AFAIK Ferrari did not offer factory shields for the 355 in 95, meaning someone spent a lot of money having the front fenders replaced with fenders that accepted shields. I could be dead wrong on this but that's something I remember about the car. That's why I am surprised to see the car w/o shields. It could indicate that the car was damaged between now and then. Don't jump to conclusions on this but if you are interested in that car make sure to check it out. Don't trust a CarFax.

John, I was at Algar today to see the 458 Speciale and I was checking out the color plaques they had on the wall.

My friend locally here just took delivery on a pozzi blue 360 yesterday. I went over his house this morning and checked it out. I haven't seen all the blues in person but I noticed at Algar that swatters wasn't on the wall. Tdf, nart, pozzi, another darker one I can't remember were. No swatters.

Swater's was pretty rare. I think it was only offered onteh355 in 96 and 96 and 97 though the 355 registry does show a 99 GTB in Swater's. Probably special order? The registry show 34 355 in Swaters. Sort of a grayish blue with violet highlights depending on how the sun catches it. You have to see it in person to appreciate it.

I ended up deciding to buy a 1989 triple black 328, but am having a very difficult time finding one. Several in Canada but I don't want to deal with an odometer change. I think the 355 is more fun, and in Swats Blu simply striking, but I am implementing a classic car collection strategy and I think the 328 fits better. Less problems than the 308 (although I think the 308 is a more "pure" classic Ferrari) and less maintenance hassle than the 355. The search continues. I never thought finding a Ferrari would be so difficult.

    Nick,

If you can not find a 328 don't shy away from a 308 QV. I've owned mine since new and they are very reliable. The car has never let me down. And I'm not a "change the belts every 3 years" type of guy. I change the oil every spring and that's about it for annual service. There is no engine out for a 308 major as I read that you posted previously. Maintenance is basically the same as a 328 if you go by the book. The 308 is a great car and a real classic. The QV is the most reliable, and the 1985 model the best of that bunch.
