Maybe JB should just go home and leave it to the men (Alonso, Lewis and Kimi) to fight it out at the sharp end. Although I do feel Massa will play a good part in this years action.
I have not read about anyone else sharing JBs view as interesting as it may be.

The Mclaren is getting to be a very reliable machine, but the long run stints on full fuel at Bahrain still have them off a bit from MB and even Williams.

LH in the press as equally impressed. I hope they do get it fixed. I want to see a straight fight with Mercedes, Red Bull Ferrari and more challenging!

"They can all go home"? - Really?

    (From: Formula 1® - The Official F1® Website ):

Q: Were you surprised by the Red Bull’s performance today?

JB: Not really, because I think if that car goes round it will be quick - it’s just getting it around. Ricciardo was running on soft tyres and I was running on medium, which makes quite a difference. So my guess is that if they can complete a race distance they will be competitive.

Q: So who do you fear most?

JB: You have to name Mercedes, because they are a big team. Then Williams have done very well over the winter. And never write off Red Bull. If they can put some laps together you can see their pace.

(From: Button wary of Red Bull and describes how Ricciardo overtook him | Grand Prix 247 ):

It is no secret that Red Bull were plagued by one problem after another during pre-season testing in Bahrain and Jerez, but there were a few flashes of brilliance from the RB10 that has Jenson Button worried.

Speaking to media in Bahrain, Button said, “I’m always worried about Red Bull If they can put a few laps together you can see their pace. They’re strong. It’s a good-looking car; it looks like it should work from an aerodynamic point of view and I think that when they do get reliability, if they do, they’ll be very, very competitive.”

“I was driving with Ricciardo for quite a few laps and he couldn’t get past me on the straights. He overtook me around the outside of Turn 11 instead, which is a high-speed left-hander. I’ve never seen anything like that before,” declared the McLaren driver.

“If they can complete a race distance, they’ll be near the front,” predicted Button.

That's not quite the same as Jenson saying: "if they get it reliable, they can all go home!", is it?

While RB works on reliability others will be working on making their's faster.
So IMO they are the back foot in a big way.I see them switching efforts to 2015
midway thru the season.I also see McLaren switching efforts to 2015 if they are
behind enough in the championship especially since they will be Honda powered

It all depends on just how the points have been shared out up to that point between the teams.
If one team dominates then RB are going to have a serious job on their hands and may decide to drop the 2014 season and concentrate on coming back in 2015.

However, I suspect the season will be a close run thing between 2 or 3 teams (if not more!), and that will just about keep RB in the fight at the midway point.

I can then see a B-spec RB arriving by the Spanish GP with slightly "baggier" packaging to aid cooling and improve reliability and they'll battle out the whole season.

If the B-spec car doesn't allow them to catch-up enough towards the end of the season though, then again, they'll abandon 2014 and concentrate on 2015.

As for McLaren, based on the running so far, there is a possibility that they may have made a bit of an error with Honda!

As things stand right now, the Mercedes engine may well be the best engine to have, and it's not completely impossible that the Honda engine could actually turn out to be a backward step!

On that one, only time will tell!

Pretty good summary of where we're at. I can easily see 4-6 different teams winning in the early going, and that would keep it wide open of course. Who decides to 'quit' and when is a long way off unless Merc (or whoever) totally dominate.

As for Mclaren & Honda, I'm with you. Sure, they've got massive resources, but Renault aren't exactly Cosworth and they thought they had it right on the dyno. There's simply nothing that can replicate racing conditions so the others will all have a years head start.

Has anyone heard if Mclaren are exclusive next season?

    Cheers,
    Ian

On record saying that "every one might as well go home"?
Which part of any of them links does LH or anyone else have the same defeatist "might as well go home" attitude as JB. As Traveller stated in his post that i relpyed and referred to.
Like I said, I have not heard any other driver say such things, And as it happens 4rephill showed that JB never even said such a thing.

I think someone is trying to read more into what Jenson said than was actually there! ;)

All Jenson and Lewis have said is that the Red Bull is a fast car (when it manages to do a few laps), and that Red Bull just need to get it more reliable and then it will be one of the front runners.

From reading/watching the interviews from both drivers, I don't get any sort of defeatist attitude from either of them, more of an attitude of never ruling Red Bull out and that they should be in for some good battles with the Red Bull drivers (if they sort the car out).

I suspect both drivers would take far more pleasure in beating the Red Bulls in a straight race on track rather than because the Red Bulls were struggling with various issues.
