Hey Guys, long time lurker here. Should've bought a dino when I started lurking Anyway, I have a lead on an original fully documented and unrestored 72 246gt with 6000 original miles, yellow/black. Never seen anything like it, car is beautiful! Any thoughts? thx
The car you are describing is the holy grail of classic cars. If it is indeed 6K miles and totally original you will need to be ready to pay a strong premium for its exclusive nature. For this reason it is super important to be sure that the car is indeed as it is described. In today's market a car like this should easily be north of $400K.
What is best course of action is proving its authenticity? Owner claims he can prove everything including miles.
If you don't know much about these cars then take somebody along who does and has worked them. They are a minefield and getting very very expensive to correct. The person also needs to know finite details too. The dino compendium is a vital source of info that every buyer should have when seeking out prospective cars. Lastly buy it because you want the car not because of its current kudos
Look for the hose clamps, suspension bolts, accesssory fasteners, detail stickers, front ventilation hoses, electric wiring markings and light/illumination/electrical markings. If it is anywhere near San Fran (heard rumors of this car) then take Patrick Ottis or Brian Brown get the car to Mr. Ottis' facility. If all true then Rob's $400k+ figure might even be conservative
Hmm. Are you for real? I smell something here. I am not sure exactly what it is, but it smells a little like . . . . But I hope you prove me wrong, although my batting average has been about .900. In your only other thread/posts you asked for a “Price check” on a salvaged F50 (http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/288gto-f40-f50-enzo-laferrari/436602-price-check-salvage-f50.html ). Then, after stating that you had seen the F50 in question, and after stirring up some interest (or something), you announced that you “have a contact to the seller if anyone is interested.” Is that how this thread is going to go too? There are several threads all over this section of recent sales and forecasts, including the recent auction sales at Amelia Island. Strange that you have missed them. Are you asking not because you are interested in buying this mystery Dino, but because you hope to play the middleman?
For me it would depend on the mechanical condition of the car. If it was parked 30 yrs ago and not run since you could end up doing basically a complete mechanical restoration to make it safe and reliable to drive. And as has been pointed out in other posts on this forum, the lacquer paint will have crazed and cracked badly by now, so the car could be quite ugly to look at.
