Ok ok, after some ribbing from other members I have started a build thread. Here is what I started with: 1984 Euro QV GTS 48K miles... http://i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa161/N900WM/308QV/308QV1_zpsb40c0811.jpg http://i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa161/N900WM/308QV/IMG_3264_zps0ab7c42f.jpg http://i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa161/N900WM/308QV/qvd_zps1291f292.jpg http://i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa161/N900WM/308QV/qvb_zpsd39d5c3d.jpg http://i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa161/N900WM/308QV/qva_zps1eadf6f5.jpg I was looking for an 85. Found this car and thought a little project would be ok. The car seemed mechanically sound with some history and recent service records. It looked great from 100' away but up close...well, not so good. It was a German car that was imported into the states a year after it was built. No cats, but the US spec bumpers were installed. On the second ever drive the exhaust became louder and louder until the muffler blew out. I installed a Nouvalari muffler and drove it a bit.
Here are some pics as it is in process now. http://i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa161/N900WM/308QV/photo2_zpsa07bcf9c.jpg http://i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa161/N900WM/308QV/photo3_zpsb8a5fc57.jpg http://i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa161/N900WM/308QV/qvbody_zps9362ee02.jpeg
Was that car ever in Milwaukee? The added stereo equipment looks just like one I looked at in 1997 or 98. Same car or not, it's good to see it being restored, thanks for the pics.
Good luck with your project. I have an 84 Euro GTB. I will follow this thread closely. Are you going to keep the bumpers red?
The engine compartment looked to be well sorted before you started. I will be following this as well. It looks to be off to a great start. I have a 85 euro qv that i might do a repaint on next year. I think you should keep the wheels on the last pic. Sent from my DROID RAZR using Tapatalk
Best luck with your project. As the bills keep coming remember it's the journey and it's worth it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I don't now if the car was ever in WI. I do know it spent some years in NJ, and CT. And yes, the sound system was quit an abortion. I don't know what to do about a replacement...any ideas? The guy I bought it from bought it at an estate sale. He told me it was a $25k car and always would be so don't fix it up...just drive it. Sorry...Not the way a Ferrari should look. I could not live with myself leaving it that way! So I'll go broke making it right if I have to. NO red bumpers. The correct euro bumpers in black are going back on the car. Since I had just refinished the wheels, I was nervous about them getting hurt during the body work phase. As it turns out, Saab spare donuts fit perfectly. The car was scheduled to be through paint by the end of January. But... We have already started on the interior and I will post pics as that moves forward. I also have all new bushings and shocks to go on the car yet.
Glad to see you restoring it correctly. Best of luck and will enjoy watching this come together. Mark
Looks good!! If my opinion means anything, put the Euro black bumpers back on it and put the correct wheels on it and you are good to go. I like stock appearance.
That car looks familiar the red mirrors and bumpers Ive seen before. what is the chassis # please Wade
Car is now out of the paint shop and currently at the interior shop...has been for the past 5 months. It is almost complete. It has been delayed time and time again. Mostly due to promises never kept, lack of attention to detail by those I have entrusted and missing parts. We spent almost a month going through the suspension as I discovered some of the A arms were bent. After a complete rebuild...the car strait. The interior is almost complete and looks beautiful. Much better than the paint that now needs more work due to improper installation of the doors. I'm considering taking the car to NJB in OH for a final work over.
O/T but I'm interested as to why use photobucket instead of just uploading your pics directly into FerrariChat. The benefit for here is less links, easier viewing on most platfoms (PC, tablets, smartphones, etc) and archival (broken links if you delete your pics from photobucket).
Where in Finger Lakes region are you? I know of, or can find through many automotive contacts, good shops in that area. I good friend of mine along Seneca Lake used a shop in Corning for his Miata, and now uses a guy just outside of Watkins Glen (I believe) for his Porsche. And my Dad knows lots of shops in the CNY area from restoring Jags and belonging to Jag and AACA clubs. The shop in Corning did a small but critical job on the QV belonging to another friend. Was very careful, meticulous, and did the job right the first time. Let me know if I can help at all. George P.
Penn Yan. My thought was to get the car to someone who was familiar with the ins and outs of the details. Not just quality. I have people here that are good people. But don't know the cars well. I've gone to far at this point to not pay attention to the little things. Open to suggestions...
