Thats the only thing thatll stop red bull, and its wishful thinking. Renault know how to make engines
Look up Brazil 2011 - Vettel had gearbox issues - he lost lower gears but finished second in the race.
At this point I'd be happy just to see the race...! There is a serious power issue here currently and I've been left without electricity for 10-18 hours at a time! My generator is broken, and the commercial ones are all completely sold out. FML .
Interesting. People down here were complaining that Eskom still delivered power abroad while we had rolling black outs. I wasn't aware that other countries were hit much harder. Wouldn't you expect consumption to go down over weekends? Won't you be able to find a decent pub with a genset?
We barely get any, if anything, from Eskom atm. I know we where cut down to just 90 MW for the whole country last week. Just heard for us problems won't be solved until winter (officially starts only in june, but it's seriously cold from mid april). Weekends are just as bad, this weekend I had no power on friday, saturday and sunday from about 7am to ~10pm. Seems like the pub is only place to go, as long as they have a decent generator. Apparently Eskom will decide this week how and what. If we go back to the 270/300MW deal we had before (after the SA rains stop, to be decent!) then there's no problem and we'll have a few hours a week. If it's not resolved I'm moving back to Europe prematurely.
No kidding! I look at these convoluted front wings and wonder what kind of drugs they're taking. With all the vagaries of turbulence during a race, I wonder if they are EVER going to work as the designers intend. Brilliant design is elegant, and elegance is usually simple. Cheers, George
Simple is best - isn't that a fact! Lets consider the ultimate industry for aero excellence - aerospace. How complicated do aircraft look? Answer - not very compared to some of these F1 franken-wings (and comedy noses). Kinda proves the point...
He was so far ahead when that happened it didn't matter. It was not like Senna winning there while stuck in one gear. Eddie Irvine said it best when he stated lots of guys win in Newey cars, he's the real genius. Vettel is great, but it's impossible not to specifically mention the dominance of his Newey cars when breathing Vettel's name, which will always have an asterisk next to it.

Horner warns Mercedes could lap field - GPUpdate.net Red Bull team boss Christian Horner has suggested that Mercedes could finish two laps ahead of the opposition at this weekend's Australian Grand Prix, given the pre-season pace displayed by the Silver Arrows. While the title holders struggled to complete mileage throughout testing amid Renault's power unit troubles and chronic car cooling problems, Mercedes topped the charts and featured at the sharp end of the timesheets. And having assessed the overall situation, Horner reckons Mercedes could be a class above the rest on the streets of Melbourne, tipping Lewis Hamilton to reclaim the crown he first won for McLaren back in 2008. "You could see a higher level of domination than we had last year," Horner, who oversaw Sebastian Vettel's run of nine straight victories during the second half of the 2013 season, is quoted as saying by the Daily Mail. "Looking at Mercedes's race simulation, it wouldn't be a surprise if they finished two laps ahead of everyone in Melbourne. They have a massive advantage. What we know about Lewis is that he is extremely talented and naturally fast. And he's in a good team, so he's probably got to be the favourite going into the season." Meanwhile, Horner is hoping that Red Bull will find itself in a much stronger position by the time the Formula 1 fraternity arrives in Europe for the Spanish Grand Prix, reiterating his faith in the Milton Keynes workforce. "We believe [the RB10] is an inherently a good car," Horner explained. "I have every confidence in the team. There's no panic. There are engineering solutions and there is no better set of engineers in the pit lane. "By the time we get to the European races in May, we should be OK."
I SERIOUSLY doubt that Horner is just blowing smoke. Now we KNOW why Hamilton left McLaren...before we just opined that it was all about 2014. For those counting on Red Bull catching up by Spain, just remember that Merc won't be sitting idly by while everyone else is developing their car. If the advantage is as big as Horner thinks, they won't be caught by anyone. Reliability problems could be the only thing keeping the championship close (nobody wants another run away)
Yes but the engines are frozen so no Mercedes development on that front and the red bulls might be faster still when they finally work. We don't know.
+1 true. We could still see MB utterly dominate for quite a few races. We just have no idea the end capabilities of the Renault unit, not even the teams themselves know! And with electrics not exactly being Renault or Red Bull's strongsuit, I'm not holding my breath.
Engines are frozen. Nothing else is. F1 teams don't tend to stand pat with the cars they launch with.
And I would think Mercedes has THE deepest pockets of any team in F1. I said last year I thought Hammy made a mistake by leaving McLaren...Now it may be looking that he made the RIGHT decision...of course as they say..... "when the green flag drops the BS stops" !!!
They're still not the biggest team, but definitely one of the biggest. That and they started on w05 seemingly forever ago and had an entirely separate team working on W05. Having MB HPP cranking out engine r&d specifically for W05 at a separate facility helps too. I said a long long time ago this new power train developed for the first time specifically for Mercedes would be the first 100% Mercedes designed car, and it appears it's not going to disappoint.
The BIG question: Will Hulkenberg finally at least complete a lap in Australia? 3 previous entries, not completed a lap yet!
