I think you are being a bit harsh, and exaggerating a bit.

The cars will be warrantied at the market acceptable benchmark.

Porsche Ag is a for-profit company to make $$$. I'm sure your own endeavors are to make $$$, aren't they? One can hardly expect Porsche not to make $$$, and whilst some will always complain about everything, there are always a majority that are quite happy with the new technology, and glad Porsche afforded it to them.

As for the new technology (CL wheels), its understandable that some who resist change complain whenever Porsche introduces new technology as they seek to push the envelope. But as always, most end up accepting it, and although some don't, it doesn't change Porsche Ag's focus one bit, as they continue in the pursuit of excellence. Porsche Ag has many faithful more today than in the past, I believe, and I believe their sales reflect this.

As regards the "996 GT3 was the last real sports/track production car from Porsche", whatever , everyone's allowed an opinion and I think its understandable that people will always advocate that whatever they happen to own at the moment is "the best" in validation of their choice. One is left to draw their own conclusions.

As regards the current GT3 production hold, this is not unusual for early versions of a newly-launched sports car and we have seen same at Ferrari with the 458 etc. It will get sorted.

As far as I recall I don't remember Ferrari's 458 having fires or other issues, it was pretty rock solid. Having said that there have been other Ferrari's with issues in the past as had Porsche (not fires as I recall, though the original Lamborghini Miura and the Aventador had this problem when they were originally released). I don't think there is a car company on this earth, never mind sports car specialty manufacturer, which hasn't had a serious problem related to their cars at some time or other. The important thing is that reputable ones, like Porsche, like Ferrari, etc..., will take care of their customers, while others may not.

Wow! Its strange that I never heard of that. It must have been an issue in Europe and the UK before the car ever made it to North America. Anyway, just like I said, as a reputable company Ferrari recalled their 458's and fixed the problem, just like I'm sure Porsche will do with the new GT3. Porsche has been around a long time (as have Ferrari) and their current stature in the sports car universe wouldn't be where it is now if they didn't stand behind their products.

I am sure it will get sorted, be interesting to see what it does to the residuals though, (2 pals of mine have bought them), they have been told not to drive them until they are checked, but they are getting a bit of stick about it ,

New GT3's in UK are selling above list, (or were),

CL - pointless really on a road car, or a track car, only really of use on a race car,

Its a fab car for £100k list but I wonder how the four wheel steer will last both in terms of desirability and maintenance. If the next generation of GT3 drops it, the prices of the 991 GT3 will drop as it will be seen as undesirable.

    regards
    Scott

    letter in uk to owners,

    Dear xxxxx:

We are writing to you concerning reported engine problems with the 2014 Porsche 911 GT3 sports car. Porsche AG, our parent company and the manufacturer of your car, has just this morning released an update and we wanted to share it personally with you. Click here to view Porsche AG’s news release.

As you will see from the news release, we are asking, until we are able to identify exactly the potential problem with the GT3, that you please not drive it. This is because Porsche AG received two reports in Europe of engine damage leading to fires in two brand new GT3 vehicles. Porsche is devoting all possible resources to investigating these incidents, so that it can determine as quickly as possible what engine modifications might be needed, if any, and on what group of cars.

We are not certain that your car is affected at all, but your satisfaction and safety are our first priority. We wish to take all possible preventative measures until Porsche’s engineers have identified any problem and we become able to either repair your car or verify that it does not have a problem. Thus, this request that, for now, you not drive your GT3.

If you wish, we will arrange for your car to be shipped to your preferred authorized Porsche dealer, where any repair that might ultimately be necessary can be made. A Porsche representative will endeavor to call you beginning almost at once to discuss this. Ideally we will speak with you later today, or as soon as convenient for you.

Our representative will endeavor to answer, or quickly obtain the answer to, any questions you may have when they call. If you would prefer to make contact with us sooner, you may call Porsche Customer Commitment at 1-800-PORSCHE, option 3.

We are committed to minimizing your inconvenience and we apologize to you. We only trust we can ask you to understand that we could not have you take any chance while we finish our investigation.

Thank you very much, and we will be in contact again very soon.

    Very truly yours,

    Tim Quinn

I just got a call from Porsche NA and they told me my car was taken off the production line and they are no longer producing and GT3's until they find a fix for the engine. They have no fix yet to what the issue is with the engine. I am pissed at Porsche, why would you produce a car that was not ready?

I was a Porsche fan in 2006 to 2009 and lost interest and that is when I went to Ferrari. 3 Ferrari's later I wanted to put my toe in the water with Porsche with the GT3, what a balck eye for Porsche and really not sure if I will get the GT3. My guess is I will be able to order my F12 before my GT3 starts back up in production.

On Rennlist, a GT3 owner has uttered the immortal words:

"Ive been told today all (991) GT3 engines will be replaced. Apparently my car is also affected. I dont have any other details other than that the source was reliable."

Porsche sent me a letter late last week informing me they are close to a fix and will call me this week!

If they tell me my engine will be replaced and will takes months to build new engines do I tell them to keep it and build me a 2015 or find a 2010 or 11 599 hgte?

Of course, that's easily understood. Until Porsche Ag issues a statement, its just speculation.

Latest post on Piston Head on status of GT3. Looks like Porsche can no longer build a very high performance engine. Anybody know of a 2010 or 2011 599 HGTE? Done with Porsche forever is this is what I am told by Porsche NA.

I have finally now received a telephone call from Porsche France saying for the moment they have ZERO news about a solution. They hope to hear something next week but they said it may be the end of the month or longer.

Is there words 'What would you like to propose we do?'

They will give me my money back if I wish which is I guess positive. They will cover the costs incurred also.

I have put a proposal to them and wait to hear.

You have to wonder what these two GT3 drivers were doing with their car to create this problem. The drivetrain and eventually the whole vehicle is tested by the company for many thousands of miles before customer deliveries start. All this test time invested and no one was able to suffer this problem before now.
As the head engineer for a domestic car company once said to me 'the public is capable of anything'.
