Fiat Dino worth more than a real Dino?

I too have a Dino 2.4 Spider, not as nice as Jims, but fresh mechanicals. In my opinion these are beautiful cars, they are a blast to drive, and have been neglected by the market. I have several standing offers for mine.Every time I drive it people say" I had one, wish I had it back", or "I have never seen one, but have read about it", or "do you want to sell it?", so I am not the only one that likes them. I wouldn't sell it anywhere near the price in the OP. The recent auction sales around the $90k level have been only "OK" cars.The most important thing is that THEY ARE GREAT DRIVERS", you can have lots of fun and not be going 150mph. I also bet that up to about 110, when the "shaped like a brick" effect kicks in, that a good one is about as fast as the 246 Dino.Finally, to pick up on another post, unless you are in the market, why do you care about their value?

What a pretentious azz clown blinded by the horse. The market isn't sideway, and while I personally like them, your GT4 isn't all you think it is.

If you can finagle it, find some seat time in as many flavors of The Other Dino as you can.

The 2.0 cars are quite charming and the little V6 is zingy and fun. The Coupe feels more poised to me than the Spider, which bends a little more toward raucous fun. Like the 3litre cars, it does seem like it could use a 6th gear. The spider is well balanced and really fun to drive. The transmissions are taught, the brakes are strong, and they are cool cars.

2.4 litre cars are in another league. The engine has more torque and fits the size of the car very nicely. The rear suspension change really makes the car predicatable and planted.

The lines of the Coupe are classic early Bertone, and the front has a great menacing grimmace. The Spider is a different car, but one I think is gorgeous in its own way.

For years the cars suffered the stigma of having Fiat badges, and their values were overlooked by collectors who focused on snobbery. Many 2.4 coupes were bought only for spare 2.4 engines, not kept up or restored, and sometimes had the ignominy of people stuffing Fiat 124 engines in them so they at least drove. NOw they are being appreciated.

I will agree with you that the market sometimes seems silly - but isn't that so with all older cars? It is rarely about the driver experience in an old car, and often about supply/demand, or whimsy, or something else. How many exotics don't get driven bc of their "value"?

The vices of the market are real. But so are the lovely attributes of Fiat Dinos!

Compared to most modern cars they're all slow.
Which, by no means, doesn't mean that they aren't a hoot.

This Dino list is worth 3x the price of a gt/ 4 , and the same price or better than a testrossa and you are calling him an azz and saying the market is not sideways ?

I think the Fiat Dinos hold a significant enough place in the history of Scuderia Ferrari to merrit the attention they're getting. Built in low numbers to homologate the V6 for racing. That's pretty cool stuff.

 

No. This is called "The Greater Fool Theory" it works like a charm everyday on Wall Street!

 

Personally like them a lot although have never experienced one first hand. If anything the values are only held back by the Fiat badge, ie perhaps they are 'cheap'. Eventually the market decides the $$ value.

But from a driving perspective, I can think of many situations this would be a more enjoyable car to drive than my GT4, pretty, nice engine sound, more relaxed, rare, very italian, nice view over those wheel arches. I am sure my wife would prefer it over my GT4 PERIOD.

I had a long look at a coupe before I bought my GT4 too.

I'd consider myself fortunate with either.

Very cool car. Certainly wouldn't call it a sh*t box in any way, shape or form. Priced a wee bit high, but all "Fiat Era" classic Ferraris are for what you really get/have to deal with; i.e. beautiful, fun-to-drive, and grossly impractical.

 

ha! so what's your opinion on the Lancia Stratos and its current worth vs. the GT4?



Personally I'm biased, I've always loved Bertone design (it should be obvious) so the GT4 has a place in my heart.

But think about it this way - if you didn't already own your car, and GT4's were trading well north of $100K or in Dino 2x6 territory - I doubt you'd ever own one. Be glad you got in when you did, and I'm sure you are.

Want to talk about undervalued mid engine Bertone cars? ........X1/9

The green car in the ebay add is not very attractive but when in red or silver, this car is very pretty. It doesn't surprise me at all that values are rising.

Easy buddy, your talking about a whole different kettle of fish here with the Stratos. This was a purpose built low volume production racing car that took 3 world rally champion titles. Please do not compare a family GT(308 GT4) in relatively high numbers with a Stratos. No comparison....at all.

 

Yes, I'm aware of what a Stratos is (I'm talking Stradale here). You missed my point, see page 1 & 2 of this thread to get you up to speed.

(Clarification: comparing values/current market of a Fiat Dino to a GT4 is equally pointless, and I brought up the Stratos because it's another marque with a Dino engine)

This thread is talking about those family four seater cars.

The stratos has no business in this thread.

I understand your point about the Dino engine, but it's not about the engine.

It's about one being called a fiat Dino worth 85k and a Ferrari Dino gt/4 being worth a 1/3 of the price.

 

Fiat Dino Spider is a two seater that was the original comparison. Yes, you're right, a Stratos isn't the same as a Fiat Dino or a GT/4, but I still can't understand how one compares a Fiat Dino to a GT/4 - they both say Dino, that's about the only similarity in my opinion. Comparing the market is like comparing apples to oranges - they're both round, different price - that's how I see the Fiat Dino vs. GT/4 market - they're not comparable, they're just different. We're not going to see eye to eye on this one and let's leave it at that.

 

A Testarossa is a better car anyway
