I'm not a fan of whooshing and whistling of turbos and nor am I a fan of the whine of electrics. :(

I like naturally aspirated induction noise.

    All the best,
    Andrew.

Agreed but if you seen in the video posted, there is quite a bit of engine noise in it.

I've watched the video. There are a lot of videos comparing the sound of the V8s with the V6 Turbos and it's easy to see which is better:

    2014 sucks! :(

The purity of the induction is tainted by the whooshes, whines, and whistles. Trying to appreciate it is like trying to enjoy eating a fine steak with Marmite smeared all over it.

I don't give a rats ass that the newer cars are more fuel efficient, eco-friendly, or more relevant to today's motorcar than F1 cars of years gone by. I drive a MINI and a SmartCar for ****s sake - think I want to see those cars race? Hell no! I also don't care that the cars are more technically impressive - they're slower than last year and quite a lot of them can't even finish the race! They just quietly pull off to the side of the road and park. What's impressive about that? If the Eco Geeks want to watch cars with electrical failures park, then let them go "race" in Formula E or perhaps encourage them to start Formula H (for hybrid).

Formula 1 should be an awe-inspiring visceral avalanche upon the senses: fast, loud, aggressive, and impressive. Burn me an oil tanker! Rev engines until they explode! Melbourne left me with the conclusion that F1 is now slower, quieter, more passive, and less impressive than last year. If this is progress, count me out.

    Foaming at the mouth,
    Andrew, FChat Ranter.

I was withholding judgement until to see what racing was really like. What a failure. Top drivers of top teams dropping out? Chataham crashing out Massa because of brake failure? It seems too much technology too fast.

As much as I like Ricciardo, Magnussen probably would have caught him... but no... he had to save fuel. I mean... this is racing correct? I don't see the value in limiiting everything... especially fuel. That in and of itself limits actual racing. We saw it yesterday.

The sound... well F1 has always been a sensory sport. They pretty much ended that. Perhaps next year they'll let the cars wind up to 19 or 20K rpm. Maybe that'll make a difference.

"Let's ride with Rosberg..." You can just imagine the commentator rolling their eyes at the pathetic video game sound of the car.

F1 will always be interesting and I will always watch it, but it has lost the element of awesome for me. It really should be called Formula Mercedes now, as they threatened to bail on F1 if they couldn't showcase their hybrid tech in it. Wonder why Mercedes was so dominant from the beginning? BECAUSE IT'S THEIR EFFING FORMULA!

F1 does no exist to satisfy the whims of Mercedes, a company that makes boring cars that weigh tons and handle like trucks.

    Cheers,

    George
