They said the same thing a few years ago when the wings changed. This one dimensional focus on the engine sound is really weird to me. F1 has about a dozen things which make me follow the sport. I won't quit if one is lost or altered.
even with only six cylinder but without turbo F1 cars would sounds much better, just look at road legal sport motorcycles like yamaha R1 only four cylinders and great noise
But.. What will happen next year? Will we have a 4 cylinders with four turbos engine? :/ I mean, where can you find out other "green stuff" after this? Only by removing cylinders? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk.
Hey, That dosnt take much. They only care about making money. They don't care if in 10 years they are running sewing machines around the track. They rely on the dipchit electronic, techy types to replace those that loved a real car. A car with an engine and a driver that drove without a million and one driver aids. Maybe in 20 years they will run computer simulations with the real sound of engines thrown in and nobody gets hurt. Wow, I cant wait to see all the different winners!
I'm telling you why this was done. The pressure on Mercedes, Renault, and Honda would be they can invest in racing ONLY if it could be used for the excuse of being some kind of "green" platform. Otherwise, no more investment in racing for racing's sake. That's why. Renault would drop as an engine supplier and probably Honda would not be interested anymore. F1 had no choice. It could not service off of one or two engine suppliers. And it's why Ferrari fought against the V6 turbo claiming it would put too much emphasis on fuel saving and not enough on what race fans would want. In the end they lost because the other teams would not give up the green excuse. Honda and Mercedes want to promote F1 as a way to promote their passenger cars burning less fuel because of all this "research" -- and therefore you need to buy a new one. Oh, and that high performance can also means"green". You don't need to be one or the other anymore.
I hope it will not... It could be a sad ending! This reminds me the MotoGP too.. When they swapped the 2 strokes bikes, putting Moto1, moto2 and moto3. 4 strokes. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk.
here you have "better" MotoGP I hope we will have F1 like this too https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BzWf-6UzQUA&noredirect=1
fans don't care about those, people hate all this green BS and other regulations, they want brutal sport, that's why MMA is so popular.
This is really great if you love to watch people die. The deadliest "race" on the planet. To each his own I guess
death is part of speed, speed would not be excited if you can't hurt yourself, putting life on danger is part of racing
F1 has had 4 bangers in the past. The BMW 4 cyl turbo was the one that had some of, if not the highest hp numbers, it was somewhere north of 1300hp. The Isle of Man is one crazy race, I wonder if it's televised in the US. How many deaths do they have a year? I know they have them every year. Is the race even sanctioned by the FIM??
Not quite what I have read. The V6 configuration was adopted as a compromise because Ferrari objected to a 4-cylinder engine. During the consultation organised by the FIA, Renault, Honda, Ford and Mercedes were in favour of the 4-cylinder design because it is closer to the engines in their range. The Scuderia objected because there is no 4-cylinder at Ferrari. Maybe they remembered how efficient the 4-cylinder BMW engine was !
But the real question is WHY move from 8's at all? It was because Renault and Mercedes needed to stick on the green label to continue and Honda would be enticed to come in. Renault and Mercedes BOTH want another engine maker to help reduce their commitments to other teams. I personally believe that Mercedes would like to get out after they win the WCC. With Honda around, it's easier to do that and not kill the sport. I have no actual data but it's just my gut based on what BMW has done in the past. Cosworth was the major supplier of F1 for many years and the sport grew. So, it's possible that the Honda engine becomes the modern equivalent to a lot of F1 non-factory teams. F1 just isn't worth all the money anymore manufacturers put into it. Ferrari gets the lion share of the winnings and pay off, even if they finish 5th.
The real question is why the FIA insists in imposing a number of cylinders. That's what puzzles me. Once they have chosen a capacity, and a fuel flow rate (I know, your pet hate), why didn't let the engineers to decide what suited them best? We could have had 4-cyl, V6, and V8 as well. Imposing technical solutions remove part of the challenge, IMO.
240 deaths on one race compared to about 40 in the entire history of F1 racing Not my cup of tea. Not since the seventies anymore. And I bet the reason is the endless loss of life and injuries. Hard to justify/sell that to a global audience and sponsors.
I think Mercedes didn´t want 4 cylinders either. Renault wanted 4, and for VW it was a must to enter F1.
you are free man, you have right to your own choice but you need understand that many people have different opinion
