Really stunning colour combination for the FF. I think in years to come the FF is really going to be appreciated as perhaps one of the most versatile Ferrari's ever made as well as being supremely capable.

Ferro....must say that I am very impressed with the paintwork on this car, my detailer had a good look round it and its all very good , no orange peel anywhere. As Ferro is an upcharge, is it 'better' paint?...ie like a double layer or something. it looks to have a very glassy sheen to it when clean, more so than a Grigio Silverstone 458 I had... or is it just an upcharge as its a historic colour?

which means it will devalue like a granite rock. People don't buy a classic for practicality.

Look at the 250/330 GTE and 365/400 GT/4 for example ...

I agree can't see why you need privacy glass on a FF? it's not going to shrink into obscurity.

My sense is that with the privacy glass, you are obliged to tint the door windows just as dark. That may be nice but it also may not be legal. Alternatively you can leave out the privacy glass and do a mild tint all round that is not as dark as privacy. Or just leave it be.

What?... Understand why u might not like privacy glass, as john says differant strokes etc

But it's nothing to do with trying to make re car shrink and I certainly don't 'need' it... It's just aesthetically pleasing for me... What do u mean by making it shrink anyway , lost me there

What I mean is that the FF with or without tinted glass will always be a stand out recognisable car.
I always thought pricey glass was for limo's to avoid be recognised??

Drove a FF with pan roof which is a really good option( until you look at the cost)

Ahh right got what you mean now agpl...pan roof is fantastic , I think most new ff's will have this option now going forward , they should of just made it standard

Ferrari already tried this variable opacity idea on the 2005 575 Superamerica with its "Revocromico" glass roof. See the description below, lifted from the Ferrari website.

Good idea, poor execution, as more than just a few of the roofs had problems with the various layers delaminating due to a faulty voltage controller (at least that's the most widely-believed cause). This created a really ugly "smear" internal to the roof that has no cure other than a completely new glass roof--at $34,000, if Ferrari still has any. See the attached photos.

I think I would stick with the tried-and-true for window tinting.

FROM FERRARI.COM: The use of electrochromic technology in the cabin is a world first in the automotive industry. The glass roof is approximately one square metre in size (1130 mm wide and 840 mm long) and floods the cabin with natural light even when closed. However, it also offers the added advantage of allowing the occupants to adjust the tint of the glass to suit their own requirements.

In fact, the electrochromic glass, manufactured in collaboration with Saint Gobain, is laminated and the inner surface of one of the glass sheets is multi-coated with electrochromic film. When a low-voltage electrical charge is passed across this, it activates the electrochromic layer which changes the tint level. In the case of the Revocromico roof, this is achieved by using the five-position switch located on the central tunnel.

At the very lightest setting, the amount of light coming into the cockpit is the same as a conventional glass sunroof, while at the very darkest setting only 1% of solar rays filter through. It takes just under 60 seconds for the glass to go from the darkest to the lightest setting. When the engine is turned off, however, the glass automatically reverts to its darkest setting to protect the cockpit. In terms of safety, maintenance and cleaning, the glass roof and its structure is quite similar to a normal windshield.

For me, I prefer the beauty of a leather headliner done in a color of your choice. And much cheaper too. :)

I also think a good headlining is fine from a drivers point the glass roof is not really of any benefit as when you look up you still see only the edge of the glass.

It is however a big plus for rear seat users.

I love the glass roof, it just lightens the whole interior to me and I can pull faces through it at my 7 yr old in the Back when I am filling up with petrol. Also it blends the overall look of the car with the dark glass, bit like having a two tone 458... It also blends well with the privacy glass and black round the rear window

He is indeed very successful, but the rumour mill says there is some old money involved too. (Don't take my word for it though)

Before you say anythng I am aware of the fact that he does finance his cars, most notably his former 997 GT3 RS 4.0.

In my book there are two reasons for tinted auto glass:

Privacy: keeps people from easily seeing what is in the car...especially with the back seats folded down.

Sun effects: keeps the car from getting hot on sunny days and helps protect the leather from sun damage.

Of course, if you think tinting looks better, that's OK as well. ;)

    Best

The man knows a good car when he drives one. I am a Porschephile and love Ferraris at the same time, and Buick Turbos/Grand Nationals but also have my eye on an FF or F12 when the market softens up - it'll be awhile.

But back on subject let's just say I'm surprised and also not surprised he made this purchase. I figure him to be more of a Porsche enthusiast, but who am I to say what he spends his money on. Besides I've already seen the aftermarket prices on the FF in the low $200K!

    Either way, good purchase!

I was keen on the FF until I drove it back to back with a California up Loralis Grade in Carmel at the auto show. The Ferrari co-pilot knew I could drive and let me take it to my limit,, so I was pushing both. The Cali felt much lighter and more nimble,, more sports orientated. Any feedback from owners here??
