the swirl reduction effect isn't because the coating is thicker, its because its HARDER than your clear coat...thickness has nothing to do with swirling effect.

also, the COATING is getting swirled up, not the clear. So in a sense, you can polish away the coating and still have max clear left and reapply the coating again. This comes in handy when you constantly polish the car and remove a little clear each time and then go to sell it with 1/10th of the clear left (if someone were to take a PTG to the paint when buying). Its a small price to pay in the end IMO.

Its more scratch resistant, not scratch proof. Coat just half the hood next time and compare the swirling effect from 22PLE and non-coated sides...you will see the 22PLE is going to look better!

There are other coatings to try out if you are not happy...all still better than any wax on the market!

TBH, change up your wash regimen/supplies if you are getting crazy swirling with 22PLE. I have it on a clients California and it shows no swirling effect after the last 6 months of biweekly washes at a car wash and me detailing it once a month.

Harder is great, but it could be as hard as a diamond and it would not matter that thin.

    I wash my car properly.

I'd love to see people post photos without 22PLE and with (after paint correction) there is no difference, NONE.

But, like any wax or coating, I do think it helps reduce FM from sticking to the car. As far as dust, no change. It causes water to bead like any wax. Swirl protection, not a chance

I am having a full pain correction on my rosso scuderia scuderia and then having the 22ple applied. I will post before and after pics and we can see what is what.

I just did my 14 458 Rosso corsa and It really does look amazing. The car only had 100 miles on it but the paint had some imperfections. They did the XPEL ultimate after pollishing and then after allowing the XPEL to cure they polished the non covered areas and added 22ple over the whole car. It took them a full day but it truly looks better than new. I understand that after it cures it will be even better and I can simply drive it and wash and not worry about wax application. Obviously this doesn't protect against scratches and Swirl marks. However that's really what the XPEL is for. This just adds a level a shine. Looks great.

Modern clear coats are about the thickness of a sheet of paper. Modern coatings are substantially thicker and better than any wax or sealant. When it comes to thickness, there is no better option to a coating such as 22PLE.

I'm sure you understand that hardness is a term that measures scratch resistance just as length measures how long something is. It doesn't measure how prone a surface is to shattering or breaking. The thickness doesn't matter when it comes to scratch resistance.

You're clear in that you're not happy with the 22PLE and I'm not trying to argue that you should like it. But what you're saying is against what industry experts have experienced firsthand and what automotive enthusiast have seen. Hearing your argument tells me you will not be happy with any coating. But if you want scratch resistance or protection better than what paint naturally offers, you won't find a better solution anywhere other than in a coating.

Is it that you just feel the claims are overblown or that you feel it doesn't provide excellent protection?

As I said prior, I don't think 22PLE offers any scratch resistance. IIRC, some of the "Pros" said that too, perhaps in other threads.

I do think it helps reduce sticking of FM to the surface. But I also feel it's a very over hyped product. My color was no deeper than when I finished the paint correction.

Many of the people in favor are those that profit from the product, not exactly un biased..

Bunch of owners like me chimed in saying they were pleased with the results. You're the one that sounds biased, big bone to pick. Just go buy something else that makes you happy.

Some are just haters. After he went after Fchat sponsor Esoteric Auto Detail and 22PLE he went after Fchat sponsor Fabspeed. Who's next?

FBB, you have NO idea what you are talking about!!!

If you read this thread, you will see I bought ALL of my products from Todd and was very pleased with his company and every other product except 22PLE.

I provide honest feedback. I'm not going to be a false cheerleader for any "Sponsor".

I've dealt with several sponsors such as SNM and Bradan and have provided positive feedback for positive experience.

Next time you make a comment about me, know what you're talking about first.

To Piper, so you are just an owner with no ties to the detail world in any business way?

Dave - not sure why you don't like it; but your car looks fantastic. In fact because of it I had decided to use 22PLE on my car and my wife's Navigator. Although I may have someone else apply it, not sure.....

    Hey Kevin,

I'm not sure you saw my car after - did you? When we went to Barbill I had not done the car yet. Thanks for the complement but I can tell you the results where due to the paint correction. 22PLE did not contribute much that a good wax would have not.

If you apply this without a paint correction, that will be a total waste. My offer still stands to help you do your car. My lift is rear operational and that would help do the lower surfaces.

Dave; pretty sure you had it at my house afterwards....the night of the barbill was the first day I had my car on the road; which was before you did the paint correction

This weekend, I have an authorized 22PLE agent do a full detail on my car. He washed, clay, compounded and steamed the entire car then applied the 22ple to entire outside and my carbon fiber door panels.

The car looked great after the compound but after the 22ple was applied, it was an almost "wet" look to it as well as the carbon. I have before pictures and will wait for the 5 days curing time to take after pictures before I post. I watched him apply it and it looked like a big pain in the butt. It is hard to believe that something that thin can offer a lot more protection but as they say, in time we will see

Just saw this. No, not in any way. I heard about 22ple here for the first time a couple years ago. I've never done it myself, had one of two local professional do it each of the five times I've used it. No expert in any way. I just can see clear as day what it does. And I know it does it without a proper paint correction, too. I made the mistake of only half correcting one car and still applying. It still made the car looks like a million bucks from a distance. Only up close could you see that some deeper scratches remained. I honestly have no idea whether competing products are as good or better. Don't really care. But I do kind of take it a little personally when there are claims that it is way overpriced and doesn't work. The labor I save skipping wax even once pays for the product man6 times over, and I probably get to skip ten waxes per application.

By the way, don't know what your beef is with fabspeed, but we would definitely find common ground there. No love lost for fabspeed.

Zero beef with Fabspeed. ZERO. FBB just likes to start trouble. All I stated was the welds done on the CAT re-core where poor. For the record, no beef with Todd either. I will still purchase products from him, just not 22PLE.

Dave, do your test on a car OTHER than one you have already done.
-do half a fender, 1/4 of a hood, or whatever. just do a 50/50. I do not see how you can make this claim. In fact, I have a test done on my own car with three different coatings...you can tell a HUGE difference in all of them.

Here are a few shots to prove it!

The entire hood was washed, clayed, IPA'd, polished once with a very minor polish in car pro reflect for some added gloss. Entire hood was IPA'd two times with 91% alcohol straight up to ensure all polishing oils, QD, anything else was removed from the paint.

Excuse the crappy cell phone pics as I just took them before posting this...

Shot one is an overall of the TAPED off LINE for my control section and the 22PLE section to the right. You can definitely see a difference here.

Shot two is a fluorescent light in the taped off, UNcoated section (control section). You can see its very hazy and lacking luster
    [IMG]

Shot three is a fluorescent light in the 22PLE coated section. You can see much more depth and clarity because the 22ple gives off that look. Also, you can see less scratching in that section due to the hardness of the glass coating compared to the control section which is uncoated.

I do this for a living day in and day out and there is has never been a time when I personallyt couldnt see a difference. YES, I have had clients mention they cant tell a difference between coated and non coated, but at the same time, most of them thought the car looked good and didnt notice the entire rear end had been sanded but never polished, the whole passenger side door had been sanded but never polished, then hood was sanded and never polished...I may have a better eye in most cases. ( just gave an estimate and the guy didnt know the entire car was repainted as he thought it was just a hazy color from neglect.)

Eric, I really don't understand your #2 uncoated, haze photo. If you see the photos I posted in this thread, they are right after paint correction and the finish is 100% perfect.

FYI, tonight I was in my supply cabinet (heated garage) and I came across my 30ml bottle (opened once when I polished some scratched out of my friends motorcycle bag) and guess what? The entire bottle is rock hard. Apparently air got in?

Be sure to seal the bottle perfectly. $50.00 in the toilet.

Dave, the #2 uncoated is the control....nothing is on it - no wax, no polish residue, no coating. Thats the starting condition of the paint prior to the 22PLE application. This is to show that uncoated vs coated, there is a difference when adding 22ple.

Thats crazy, Ive never had a bottle go completely rock hard. I have a half used bottle in my car for the last 3 months and its still in liquid form. Usually its just the top that hardens and needs to be cleaned off prior to using.

Dave, obviously you are unhappy with 22PLE, try out Gtechnique or Cquartz UK after you polish off the 22PLE as they wont stick to paint when there is a coating on them.

Todd at Esoteric took care of me. 22ple is awesome. Ask anyone I am no waxer. I'm a racer. If I can get results like this someone else could do better. Reflections are really hard to capture in photos and my picture taking really sucks. Here is my Silver and Red 550's parked next to each other reflected on each other after 22PLE
