When I bought my 2007 F430 last month it only had one key. I ordered a new one plus the code card and it arrived today. The key is cut to the car. Do I need to have it programmed? Is this something I can do or does a Ferrari dealer have to do it? Do they need the car and the key or can the key be programmed without the car? Sorry for all of the "noob" questions. I'm used to being able to reprogramme the fobs on my GM cars without the need for dealer assist. My nearest dealer is in the Atlanta area (5 hour drive).

Bill- Only the dealer can do it. What they do is flush the memory of the old key data and then program the alarm ECU to accept both the new and the old key. System will accept up to 7 keys, but that is a fair amount of change since they were around $800 each last time I looked.

You didnt order it from Ferrari? I ordered my Maserati key from Maserati/Ferrari and once key arrives you need to take your car to them and they program it in with the SD3 for you, the ferraris are the same story. Key cannot be programmed without the car definitely not no. Do the F430's not use the remote system anymore yeh?

Thanks for your help. I guess a road trip is in order. I had Marino Performance order the key for me through Ferrari of Ft. Lauderdale. The cost plus the code card was $735 shipped to me.

Is the alarm code different to that on the 360? I was told if you don't have the code and you lose the fobs then a whole new system is required at a cost of many $$$. I don't have a code and my dealer said that it would be $500 to get it from Maranello but they would not guarantee that it would be the correct one for my vehicle.

I got two keys but one of them has bad scratches on the red cover, I think I'll just have my bodyshop repaint the cover :)

Alan- The F430 (and 612 and all later Ferraris) uses a completely different alarm system from the 360. It uses a modern lithium battery key and fob combination instead of the 80's technology system used on your 360 and my 575M. No commonality at all with the earlier systems.
