At the recommendation of some posts on here I started adding Lucas fuel additive to make up for the poor quality gas that is for sale in California. Will this contribute to more "smoke" in my exhaust? Someone made a comment to me this weekend that it looked like I may be either running too rich or burning oil. I'm hoping that adding the Lucas is the cause.

I never had an issue if you use it to the directions
In summer heat I run a bit more

I know you have new cats, let the ECU learn some of the car and let thew cat "burn in"

Never panic it just makes you spin in circles :)

All these additive are just some form of petroleum distillate; naphtha, mineral oil, diesel fuel, mixes of several.... A waste of money.

See if you can find a VP Racing Fuels station somewhere near you. There's one close to my house and every so often, I treat my mistress to a drink of some 95 octane or if she's really been putting out for me maybe some 99. Expensive as all heck but worth it.

Some 76 stations carry the VP Racing 100 octane unleaded gas, but at about $10/gallon it is an expensive option with little benefit to stock street cars.

I was following you on the 210 when you stepped on it a few times. I did notice a bit of black/darker exhaust coming out from the tailpipes. Not sure if that means you're running rich, but definetly different than the rest of the time when I was driving behind you.

Thanks Armen. Anyone want to chime in on if this sounds normal under heavy acceleration?

Running racing fuel in an engine with a 10.8 to 1 compression ratio is just wasting money. That black smoke you see is unburned fuel, your engine can not properly burn that fuel

Higher octane means lower resistence to knocking not burning. Your black smoke may be linked to additives in the booster but would not come from racing fuel. Racing fuel would be a waste in a street carand our 348s unless you use Iit to warm up the 91 octane from pump gas a bit. Something like 5 gallons of 100 to a tank of 91 would be a good general formula. Anything more than that is like burning cash. This is what I would comsider for a track day.

I wouldn't think it would make a difference on one tank. It would take the ECU longer to figure out things have changed and then when you went back to the original, it would have to relearn again. Just my .02cents.

it's possible that the additive is cleaning away some carbon deposits and that is what you are seeing being expelled from the engine and exhaust.
