I don't think I will be keeping it all the way back, but it gives the room if need be. And yeah, I have very long arms and legs. What are the "SS" seats? The Series Speciale?

Yes, the Series Speciale seats are made of another material so that they are thinner and much much lighter, I think kevlar rather than carbon fibre. Perhaps someone with the seats can chime in on their construction.

    All the best,
    Andrew.

I thought they were made of UnObtainium. :) J/K I would guess they are fairly difficult to come by though.

They are kevlar and most uncomfortable for long trips. But they look cool.

Sure, for all my coast to coast commuting I do in my 348, that might get annoying. :D

Lol... That's funny. I bought some lumbar pillows and it's comfortable now on 100 mile trips.

I have them in my car.

They are kevlar and your description is correct. They are very thin and you sit much lower (and have much higher side bolsters).
They do get somewhat uncomfortable after 2 hours or so because they have zero lumbar support.

Roll up a t shirt and there you go...?

Worked in my old Miata, but that would have a small insert so you could cram it in there, unnoticed. Very envious of those seats. Might have to look for similar alternatives in the future.

I can say after 20 years. .. They do require some extra care and attention so as not to make the wear worse.

WOW, that car was at my buddy's condo complex. I never met the owner, but he did. The funny thing is that when I first saw the car I was amazed how bad the interior was. As I was leaving his place, my friend commented that the interior of my 87' Scirocco 16v looked almost brand new compared to that poor 348ts, LOL

But glad to see that a true enthusiast ended up buying the car, and it has a good chance of surviving as opposed to being driven to the ground. Good luck with the project.
From what I understand, the guy who had it before you didn't have it for too long.

Johnathon, what height did you have to jack the car too to get the engine out and did you remove it straight out or that trick to do it side on?

Also, did you have any problems with the front catchin? would be interested in pics of how the front is secured/how close to the ground it gets

What is really amazing to me is if you do a leakdown and compression on that motor it will probably be good despite clearly being a car with a hard life of being driven hard and put away wet. 348's are tough cars you can beat on and will not blow up. I don't think a 355 could survive the abuse this 348 has survived. Glad to see this 348 put right!

Does this car have a california history of past life in Huntington beach? If yes I know that car.

I have four 6 ton jacks. I don't need the weight obviously, but they are very tall. I brought the whole car up a good ways, dropped the subframe, then brought the rear up a bit more, turned the engine and brought it out. Fairly easy overall. During the removal, the car was level, about 12" to 16" off the ground.

Car is from Cali, not sure about Huntington Beach specifically. It came from the West Hollywood area? I am not well versed in Cali topology. It was for sure not treated gently. At some point someone did really care for it though. Somewhere along the lines it got forgotten about.

I don't think I have ever seen seats in worse condition, except perhaps in junk yards. But it looks to be damage mostly just from sitting uncared for in the sun. It works in my benefit as I got it cheap and now have a great project car, which is exactly what I wanted.

Excellent. I would assume they would be VERY easy, since right now, the engine is already out. :)

Started in on the 30k yesterday. Got a good ways into it. Decided I might go a bit further as I found a rodent nest under the intake. There is at least one chewed wire for the AC, and there was a lot of garbage in there, but it was otherwise OK. Got it vacuumed out and will likely take the harnesses out and go over them in detail.

I also got a set of wheels back that I had a few years back and mocked them up on the car. Looks like they should fit well and look decent. They will need to be redone as the white isn't the same. I'll also get them filled and redrilled.

It is so cool to see this because this car looks like it has been neglected its whole life. But the reason it is cool because it just shows how awesome tough a 348 is.
