Yes, these are printed on fast mode, fine mode would make them smoother I guess. Printer is new to me and have to tweak and learn it.

These came out fine, they had to be pushed rather hard into the socket, they wont come out and I do not think glue is needed, the jagged surface lock itself inside the bulb holder.

I will put modelling of the complete holder on the shelf and refine these a little. The tabs should be wider but thats about all! :)

Awesome! 3d printers are so cool. I am really resisting the urge to get one.

Thanks Teveo! This is a great solution to my broken holders. I remember someone selling
OEM holders for only $200 each! Anyway, I sent your .stl file to a friend and he was able to print two of them for me. I would like to suggest some improvements: the ring can be thicker to handle the stress, probably most of us have holders with only one broken tab so the second tab could be deleted, and the new tab could fit into the hole left by the broken tab. I will talk to my friend about making some for evaluation and I will post some pics with the results. ABS should handle 270 Deg F. and should be good in this application. Thanks again for your great solution Teveo!

Jeff, thanks for the kind words.

Regarding one broken tab, I had the same situation with two bulb holders and just broke one tab off the ring, worked fine.

Just uploaded the Lightwave (.lwo) file (to the grabcad library), this can be imported in various 3D modelers and refined. The tabs can be made a little larger and the ring could be a tad shortened (axial length).

I can export to other formats if needed, just let me know.

Jag, it will fit but will not have the proper look from the engine compartment. We need those two long ears.

I agree, not concours ready.....But, it is ready for the street driving which is more important while WE wait for value to go higher. Wait for concorso trophy later....

Anyway we could get these on Shapeways?

For those who dont know.....Shapeways is a an internet 3d Modeling site. A person can upload their design and sell it.....like Cafe Press. Shapeways does the work and takes a cut of the $$.

You are welcome. If I find time I will refine and print a small batch.

The important outer diameter seem "spot on", the depth is maybe a tad too much and the printing/extrusion should always be run on "fine". Tabs could be little larger.

I am sure there is someone with a 3D printer in the US/Canada that could download the model, refine and print for beer or something.. :)

To be honnest it's the first time I see a 3D printer part and I'm very impressed by the result.

This is a fun little project. My friend spent a lot of time making the tabs a little stronger. It occured to me that there is no depth limit so I increased the ring thickness and tab thickness by 0.050 inch. A handfile will remove plastic on the bulb holder and allow the black ring to recess slightly into the slot. I have not glued the rings yet so I don't know the best epoxy to use. I will try Conap that has been laying around my shop for about 10 years. The pic of all the rings are the practice/experimental rings as 3D printers are not exactly plug-and-play. These are made out of ABS.

So here is the idea: My friend made a couple of extras so if you would like to experiment, send me a PM with an address. We need to find the best glue and ring material, he is trying nylon next.

    Any suggestions are appreciated.
