Serious question; how on earth did Roy get a 650Spider already? I didn't think the US had official deliveries yet....

I saw 3 650S at the service center being prepped for delivery over a week ago when I dropped off my 12C for its annual service

I was offered a 2014 12C spider about 2 months ago from the dealership for $250k . Lightly optioned at $277k sticker. Decided to hold off due to the 650 coming out.

Blast from the past. Nearly halfway to predicted demise and 2012 12C has held steady or appreciated, 570S and GT are out, and P1 trades over sticker.

Yeah that doesn't look like it's going to pan out. McLaren is going from strength to strength these days. The 570S, 570GT, 675LT and 675LT Spider have all bee critical successes and they've sold out both LT coupe and spider. We know now they're working on the successor for the 650S codenamed P14.

From: McLaren 650S successor (P14) coming next year?

Thanks Luke :D I'll see what I can do. It's up at Oake's shop right now getting detailed so I have a feeling he'll have a bunch. Once I get it back I'm off for a 2-3 month road trip around the country so I'll do my best to get some glamour shots along the way.

To add to Mark's post, with Track22 in effect, pouring money back into development, all of the new cars coming up, etc I think they'll prove the naysayers wrong. There are growing pains of course but they've created something truly special and I think people are catching on.

688 came and went. It was a limited run for high-spending MSO customers.

agreed. this was a similar situation that occurred with the amg sls. they too were expected to drop like a rock...never happened.

a great car is a great car no matter how hard the boards try to convince us otherwise. oh...and the bubble is not bursting either much to the sadness of a few of the vintage marketplace dudes:)

What's the long term reliability report on the 12C?

Any recurring or common issues? Feel free to get detailed and nitpick.

They seem reasonably priced for what they are.

I am at 4+ years since new. Zero driveline problems. Headlight condensation. Horn. TPMS. HVAC control displays. Front control arms for noise. Robust, durable and a silly value.

Two (2) annual services, HVAC control panels, set of tires, sticky fuel filler flap - needed lubrication, license plate LED light - other than that - rock solid.

coincidence that you both had HVAC display problems or was that a recall?

The HVAC display was a dodgy piece that has since been replaced with a better one. It's just the temp display on the door handles so not really a huge deal and is an easy fix.

From the research I did before buying it seems like a vast majority of cars are mechanically excellent but there are common small issues like the HVAC display, condensation in headlights and taillights, wonky IRIS issues, etc. There have been some cars with blown heads/engines apparently resulting from a faulty coolant hose clamp, but that was resolved and only appears to have affected a small number of cars. Overall for a new car and new company they seem pretty reliable. I just took mine in for the 2nd annual service and the only issues were a wobbly center console cover and some torn up bits on the under tray.

Lash - If you're thinking about picking one up I'd be glad to let you check it out sometime.

HVAC display gets dim and loses contrast so it becomes difficult to read. I think it's common and I bet will be remedied in any car. The car is magnificent. Bespoke Carbon fiber tub. Brilliant active suspension. Huge power. Vastly superior to 458 in any objective performance measure and lower production numbers. I think worldwide 12C is under 5000 units. It does not appeal to everyone but I expect it to develop a cult following like the Elise has.

The cars sound reliable for the most part.

What exactly is involved with an annual service and how much does it run?

I'd like to know how easily the car can be maintained at home outside of warranty.

Robin- I will take you up on that offer. I may also stop by the dealership one of these weekends.

    Thanks,
    LSJ
