I'm replacing the passenger side inner CV boot. I have the hub off and flange to the trans unbolted so the axil is just hanging there attached to nothing. But I can not get it out. The flange won't fit between the trans casing and the header. The workshop manual seems to indicate that it should jut come right out. But I can not seem to find an angle that will allow it to come out. Seems like the exhaust header will have to be loosened. I know others here have replaced CV boots and never mentioned any problems getting the axil out (other then getting the flange bolts off). Any suggestions would be appreciated. Is there a magic angle that allows it to clear the header and trans casing?????

Unbolt the converter at both ends and move it up and out of the way as best you can. Slide the axle towards the rear of the car and then remove it from the car.

I know on the 5.2 it is easy you just have to unbolt the hub from the bottom A arm and axle nut if I remember. But if your car is a 95 2.7 the headers are different and I think Howie is right. I have never done a 95 but I know it has something to do with the exhaust and its a bit of a pain.

I'll take a look but I don't think removing the cat will help. Anyway, as far as the 95 goes, the main exhaust path is the same. It appears to me that only the bypass part of the headers that is different. I may try un-bolting the rear engine mounts and raising the rear of the engine a bit. It may give a little form clearance. I guess it's going to be one of those things that has to be screwed with until it comes out.

I removed the whole exhaust including cats, made everything relatively easy.

Thanks for the response. After letting it sit over night I got out there this morning and it can right out. 2 minutes. Just a had to get my hand in there and hold the CV joint at an angle. That's what a good nights sleep and some daylight will do for you. Reason told me that even Ferrari would not make this too difficult.

Good to hear! Use torque wrench and may be some Loctite when putting flange bolts back on. Experience tells me they like to come undone.

No Loctite but torqued to spec. I recall your experience. Job was actually pretty easy but impact wrench a must to remove wheel nut and flange bolts.

    Mind your language Steve.

You are lowering the tone here....and in other threads...

And...getting angry and losing your cool is not how to work on a precision machine.

    Best to sleep on it.

Thanks John! Being Irish I am a bit outspoken and brash at times and sometimes my humour can be a bit wrong but hopefully the more people get to know me on this site the more they will get to know me for the joker I am at times.
