    Hi
    For my F355, 5.2 1997

Without busting the bank, any good tips where i can find a ELECTRIC AIR PUMP WITH FILTER Part No. 165903‏

The original air pump motor has packed in, everything else is perfect (apart from the filter needs a clean) the blades are like new on the rotor.

Can i get the electric motor refurbed anywhere?

Had a look in interchangeable part but nothing - any ideas?

    many thanks
    Mark

I had to replace mine years ago...during my search I didn't find a great substitute, only some that were 'close' (VW had one I think). Ultimately I went with a used one I found online, worked fine past 5 yrs...

what about taking it to a local electric motor shop & have them rebuild it?

It's not meant to be rebuildable. It only runs during warmup, supplying extra air to the cats to reduce emissions. Fortunately, the car can run just fine without it. The downside is you may need to reset a CEL occasionally.

Doesn't that pump supply the vacuum necessary to operate the by pass valve while driving?

no the air pump is only on the start up to inject fresh air into the cat for emission , the vacuum come from the motor and there is a reservoir to keep a certain amount of vacuum for the by pass valve

Yeah, I need this working to pass emissions. resetting CEL doesn't work, still gets flagged in emissions test...
